You'd also have to remember not to walk into the back of the caravan otherwise you'll end up tipping it and will probably damage the back end! I feel safer with the steadies down and also it will take a thief those few seconds longer if they have to wind up the steadies
We wind our jockey wheel right the way down so the van is nose down, Then wind the rear steadies all the way down until quite firm, then wind the front down. Locks on all steadies also.
This means it is harder to lift the van should a thief want to try and steel it by not being able to jack it up onto a hitch (well thats the theory) also have a hitch lock and wheel lock on. quite a few owners do this on our storage site. also means the water can run off the roof a lot better, when it rains.
I do the opposite, nose high so everything can run off the back (tree's to the rear of it).
------------- Enjoying caravanning, realising what an expensive hobby it is and spending the family’s inheritance before they can get their hands on it!
Mentioned already but a factor in favour of having the steadies down is that without the wind may just turn your van into another. Brake off as the nature of wheel brakes could result in the brakes seizing onto the wheel. Then you go nowhere. This is more likely with long periods in storage, e.g. over winter.
