I am 6 foot 4 inches tall and would like to know which Bailey caravan you would suggest for headroom and the ability to lie down comfortably at night.

We are family of 3 and our daughter is 8 years old. I have decided that the end dinette / end bedroom is the best layout for us.

I would prefer not to purchase new but any suggestions would be greatly received.

thanks

Tom

I did a search like this (being an inch shorter than you) and never found one post 2000 Bailey suitable for me, we wanted a fixed bed because made up beds left me with backache all the time we slept on them - we now have a 7'6" by 5' island bed - but it ain't in a Bailey

Why Bailey anyway?

Have a look at the Pegasus 646 or Senator Carolina (same layout but Carolina was made 2-3 years ago).

thanks for the feedback so far. The Bailey seems the most popular, plenty of service agents and cheap insurance. Would you recommend any other makes that I should consider for legroom and headroom?

thanks

It's only the more modern Bailey models that have 6'5" height, so worth checking this.   A lot of the German vans have longer beds - not sure about ceiling height. Not many are importing to the UK market at the market at the moment after the exchange rate against the Euro changed a couple of years ago.   Worth checking Hobby, Dethleffs, Hymer and Geist.

Most UK vans will be fine if you're looking at a double bed at the front where you sleep across the van - but some caravans are wider than others, giving a bit more room - the Pegasus is wider than the Olympus, for example.

Good luck!

Now that is a difficult one - personally i prefer the foreign 'vans as they seem really well built but they are not too popular and because of the euro exchange rate there are not many dealers selling them now!

Interested in this thread as my OH is a shade off 6ft 4. He manages in our Ranger 470/4 but that's only because he can sleep across the width of the van at the front. We haven't yet found a fixed bed long enough so the 7ft one above is interesting to hear.

I have the added problem of two teenagers who are getting up to 6ft. I'd love to find a layout that would allow them to have a bed inside as well but we don't seem to fit the designers' demographic at the moment.

We are determined to have a fixed bed caravan but like many others, need a bed big enough to accommodate a tall OH. The Lunar Lexon 530 with side fixed bed is the nearest i think we've found. Its big enough because there is a gap at the bottom of the bed, so OHs feet can stick out the end (as at home). My OH is also 6'4" - i thought he wouldn't be the only one but no manufacturer has catered for those who are taller then about 5'10"! The island fixed beds are only just long enough for me, at 5'7"!

I'm 6'4" tall and use the Bailey Ranger 520-4 fixed bed with no problem. I think its actually a couple of inches longer than 6'3" as there is a bit by the headboard as well as the mattress. The ceiling is 6'3" except in the new Alutech vans. I do manage with that height as the roof lights are a lot higher.

Make up beds across the front or back are much longer but not so comfy.

Have a look at the bailey Pageant Vendee as that was a fixed bed across the back.

The Bailey is very upright at the front, whilst not being perhaps as attractive design as most of the others i.e. swift it enables more headroom whilst sitting in the front corners.
We are not very tall but trying it side by side with a swift it was the deciding factor.

Bailey offer value for money we love ours but we would look at other makes should we have another new van (very unlikely) because ours (2007) has to go in to have some damp investigated possibly having to have a new front.

A friend of of ours has had to have a complete new back it's 2006.

Just something to think about when buying a used one, you may encounter the dreaded cracked panel.
