Hi

I would live to get a caravan but we have a very steep long drive (flat at the top).  My Dad thinks a caravan would ground it's self on the way up.  Mainly the over hang at the back of the caravan would hit the drive on the way up.  Our neighbour who has a slightly shallower drive had a big motor caravan which used to carve a grove in the drive on the way up screeching all the way!

Are their any devices which would temporarily raise the bodywork to get it up the drive? Or anything else we could do.

That's a bit of a sweeping statement.

I'd agree with Scarletsfan there. I've heard of more than one `secure' storage site that people's caravans disappeared from, and plenty people have secure storage at home - we do !

What sort of vehicle do you intend to tow it up with ? As Brianconwy says I'd think the actual caravan might be ok but maybe you need a 4x4 for towing it up  (I mean a `proper' one with decent ground clearannce) Maybe you could post a photo of your drive on here, that might make it easier to advise you.

we have a nightmare of a drive to deal with that our caravan has grounded itself on and broke the handbrake by putting itself in the on position!

Husband takes jokey wheel and stabilizer bar off until we're at bottom of drive in road, then replaces them.

we also find that to get up and down drive without too many problems we have to do it at an angle crossing either one of our neighbours drives, quickly.

suffered the drive blocked up last winter, this winter we will be putting in storage and may consider times in the summer also as we have had too many horrors getting up and down our drive. we tow with a freelander.

Just put it in storage.

Btw my own suggestion earlier was ridiculous ! Dunno why it never occurred to me at the time, but if the caravan was hitched higher at the front it would then be lower at the back - & hit the driveway. So ignore me

I think the winch may be the way forward, that way you could lower the jockey wheel at the frotn to allow the back to be higher then alter accordingly, Just do it in reverse on way down,

We have had ours in storage for the last 8 years and this year knocked down a dilapidated old garage in our garden and now the van is there, far easier than in storage to pack etc and we can use it as a spare bedroom
