I am proposing buying a caravan - 2 berth.  Not a new one.  I have been looking and the make which has attracted me is the Bessacarr.  Could I have your thoughts on which makes I should look at and which are not so good.  I am looking at date ranges around 1996-2000.  My budget is £4000.

Thanks

Click on free adverts above, click on caravans and fill in the rest. there was a Abbey Iona 1998 at just under 4k not so long ago. My father had one and loved it, I used to borrow it 15 year ago..

Hi LindaB

While the Bessacarr is ok but sorry for me they are way over priced for what you get.

You do not say what year Bessacar you are looking at, but for your budget my advice would be to shop around as there are some very nice 2 berth Caravans that will give you more AND you should get a newer second hand caravan for the same price.

As a first time buyer and a budget of £4k you can look at caravans around £4.500/£4.750 as remember Negotiate, Negotiate , Negotiate off the asking price, (min 10-15%) and while you are admiring all the nice inside take a 'good' look at the outside!, BUT 'if buying privatly' do not pay for the Caravan until you check the VIN number out with CRiS (Caravan Registration & Identification Scheme). www.crischeck.com, it is money well spent incase it is a repaired write off or stolen caravan or if there is also any outstanding hp/debts on the caravan.

Same goes for a Main Cravan dealer in negotiating, actually the bigger the dealer sometimes better the deal AND the caravan should have no signs of damp (get a 1 year guarantee min).

Hope this may help

Mike

Hi

I think you will find the number of two berth caravans for sale is fairly limited.  I wouldn't therefore try to pick out one particular make/model to begin with.

If I were you, I would have a look at any 2 berths within your budget.  After a bit of viewing, you will have started to form your own opinion about brands, models, layouts and upholstery schemes which appeal to you.

Bessacar was  (I believe) a quality brand and even when the Swift Group took over the brand, they continued to market them as a premium van.  Later models usually have dark wood schemes and rather classic/traditional upholstery schemes, some have optional leather seats.  I know its a sweeping statement, but they would tend to be heavier vans than equivalents from other makers.

Happy hunting!

Mrs U-M
