As we're putting the caravan into winter storage this year and we're having new tyres put on next week, we want to take them off and keep in garage, so was wondering whats the best to use on van, winter wheels and steadies or axle stands and steadies?

well, axle stands also take the pressure off the suspension as recomended by ALKO for storage, but winter wheels allowes for security if you use security wheel nuts

I use axle stands & replace one wheel with the JSB Hublock http://www.jsbhublock.co.uk/3.html

How can axle stands take the pressure of the suspension when they are fitted under the axle as recommended by Alko

To take the weight off the suspension you would have to jack up the body so that the axle hung underneath

Personally I would not bother with either, and wait until you start the new season before fitting the new tyres. I don't think I would fit new tyres, and then put the van into storage

We have decided on having new tyres fitted now as we still have 3 more outings this year before the winter season, also we had a blowout in Aug that caused considerable damage to the floor and shower area, now this has been mended we want to try an eliminate any more bad luck, the blow out was to the spare which has now been renewed, as the van is coming off of the drive and going into storage for winter feel that either putting some old wheels on it or axle stands would be ok and store the new wheels away from the cold.

Corpogreen - is this what you did bought old wheels?

i always put our van on axel stands inbetween trips as it prolongs the life of the suspension , wheel bearings and tyres

because the suspension is at each end of the axle.see
