Finaly ive convinced my other half to shift away from tents into a caravan, now there is 4 of us , the 2 kids are 6 & 3 so idealy we are after a van with bunks for the kids . our budget will be around £3500 /£4000 so whats the best i can expect for that , also what vans have bunks.
I had a quick look at the classified ads on here but some sellers seem to be new members who have not even posted , would it be adivsed to stay away from these sellers .
all info would be big help as it looks harder than buying a car

Hello

Sorry i can't help with the van (we are a couple so my knowledge of vans is mainly for 2 berths-lol)
Have you had a look on caravanfinder.co.uk they have an option to search by layout and would give you some ideas on layouts available and the names of the caravans with each layout.
Also do you have any dealerships close by ? we had our heart set on a fixed bed but when we started actually viewing the caravans it wasn't what we wanted at all! I can't tell you how many different caravans we looked at! A trip round the dealerships will at least give you a good nosey round the layouts available.
Am sure somebody else will come along with experience on the type of caravan you are after.but another thing to consider is damp-get a damp meter and check out any prospective purchase yourselves or get a qualified/experienced person to check it out on your behalf.

Happy hunting and keep us updated

Try having a look on ebay. You can put all your requirements in to the search (left hand side) including your price range.

Then you can get an idea of the vans you like the look of, jot them down and head off to your nearest dealer.

Fixed bed/ bunks are an option, but we have the diner set up where the chairs and table convert into a bunk bed (amazing when you first see it) and it takes about 3 minutes to do it from start to finish, likewise with the main bed. Depends on what your after, best thing is as stated above, go to as many dealers as possible, look for your ideal set up, we found we wanted an L shape lounge and end bathroom so didnt mind the hunt. Its amazing how many varieties are out there.

Good luck

This will sound very silly, but if you intend to use the caravan loo, have a sit down to make sure you are comfortable.  We are both quite large and have found side washrooms/toilets a bit of a waste of time.

Also consider how long you might keep the van.  At the moment bunks would be fine, but when the kids get into their teens they could outgrow them.

I second the above....

I have a double-dinnette van which is great for my family, but it does mean having a side washroom/toilet.

My wife and kids have no problem using the toilet, but even though I'm just under 13 stone, going to the toilet (sitting down) is not easy.  However I mainly use the site facilities - but its OK for occasional use.

Try before you buy...but don't let the seller/dealer watch

Note we have a separate shower in our van but we have never used it.
