Hello all,

Im new to caravaning and we are going to be taking our first trip the end of October.

A friend of mine discovered 2 unused 7kg butane totalgaz bottles in his shed.

After a little research i discovered these are french and the question is can they be used on a propane regulator possibly with some kind of adaptor?

I ask because it would really be a shame to throw these away as they are both full.

Many Thanks For Any Help

Neil

hi, against all uk belief ,i use a butane regulator. i know in uk we use 37mbr. but in morocco they used to put propane in our butane bottles it worked fine. you will need our old lh screw on butane regulator. if you google BES they carry allsorts. i have made an adaptor from the lh thread to propane pol as i run moroccan bottles sometimes and need the propane fitting to fit my adfaptor to fill at the lpg pumps at forecourts. hope thats of help. cheers alan

i have a total gas here .good in france and you can exchangre in morocco as well.

its also possible to get a butane style regulator that as an adjuster on the top to allow tuning of the pressure i bought one in france. must be able to get them here i think. just re read your post use an old butane reg i thought you had propane in the bottles . or get the right pigtail if you have fixed reg.

The regulator looks similar to the standard calor butane cylinder - does that fit?

If not buy a totalgaz one off the french eBay

Alan and Rune Caster, am I correct in thinking that Neil needs to replace his propane regulator (or pigtail) with a 21mm Clip-on butane one?

i have the old left hand thread standard euro butane fitting on my total gas .its just like our old butane fitting before we changed to clip on. could be that they have a new fitting. i did see a 20mm clip on last year on a french bottle . all the different regulators  etc are available from BES. try googling.

i have a supergas regulator here thats 20mm clip on .never found a bottle it fits till last year. just keep carrying it around might find a use one day.

think we need more info on what the bottle as on top .i have only seen my type totalgas but could be wrong.

Does your gas bottles look like any of these? The info as to which regulator should be on the website somewhere. You will have to get the correct regulator, it could be a 20mm or 27mm butane clip. Some French 13kg bottles will fit the screw on Calor butane regulator.

If bottles require a clip regulator, measure across the top of brass fitting to find size.
