Hi.

After a very bad experience with a damp Bailey Ranger, myself and the wife have decided to purchase a Sprite Musketeer TD caravan for next season.  Do Sprite Caravans suffer much with damp? I think its just a case of once bitten twice shy but we'd hate to be caught out again.

Cheers

Shay.

A Sprite is no more or less likely to get damp than a Bailey.

any caravan can suffer the dreaded damp even at 12 month old.someone we know has had a service and there van has it on the rear wall and is a major job.this is also 12 month old.if private buy a good damp meter,if its a dealer he must make sure there is no damp and fit for use.

Forget British built Vans mate. Damp still seems to be a huge problem. We've been caravanning years with an old Stercman caravan bought in France years ago. No damp. No problems. Traded it for a hobby which in the end was just a little heavy for us. Still no damp, no problems.

We traded it for a  Bailey Ranger  last year brand new. Have just had it serviced and it has bad damp in 3 places.  Thankfully its being fixed under warranty. Then i'll be rid of it and back to a european van once more. No damp, no problems.

Take a look at Hobby or Adria caravans mate before you jump in again. the build quality is far superior. They are well kitted out for the price, they have a good support network here in the UK and most importantly they won't leak.

All the best and good luck with your new van

One good point other than no damp or in german/french vans is i was told by a caravan engineer that carver fires are on their way out so if you break the motherboard on top of the fire there is no replacement where as the companies here are fitting the same fires as abroad.??

Heres hoping!! weve just bought a musketeer EB as our first van was put off of Bailey as everyone we saw, even new ones, had things falling off or broken!  At least you get a 6 year water ingress guarantee but I guess there much of a muchness with most other brands.  You'll always gonna get some folk saying you should have bought certain brands over others but I guess if you take all things into consideration you gotta go for the van that best suits you.  For the money a musketeer is a good lightweight (if a little basic for some) van.  Good luck and have fun with it!
