My 3 yr old grand daughter has just decided that it would be a good idea to come on holiday with us, so we have a choice, we either put grandad outside in an annex in the awning to sleep or buy a new van. The new van would only happen if she was so smitten with it that we could not get away without her so I have to decide which annex I would like to sleep in. Isabella do two kinds a tall annex and a futura bedroom annex and I am looking for the opions of people who use them as to which is the better and which is easiest to put up. From my perspective I am tempted by the futura annex because it looks easier to put up and does not have such a large frame to carry around but I would welcome other peoples views please.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Bill ....you can always buy an inner tent to try first ..air bed inside it and a decent sleeping bad ..job done ..the annexe will cost a packet and you might only use it once .. i purchased a tall annexe at the caravan show 2 years ago with a new bradcot awning and never used it yet because some sites will not let you have them up if you have a large caravan ..i'd only use it on a club centre rally holiday i think ...i'll have to wait until next year to try it now ..

I already have an inner tent and had sussed out the airbed and sleeping bag and we had considered just using that. But then we thought that with a two berth she is likely to want to be outside in the awning if the weather is not very goood as there is a lot more room in that and the inner tent does make a big hole in the usable space. We considered swapping vans but the cost of that makes it a very expensive option, so we are looking at an annex. Also if we make a good job of it from the beginning we will enjoy it more which makes it more likely that we will do it again. Our thoughts are that an annex cost £369 and looking at ebay they sell for about £270 so if we have a disaster and she never comes again we can write the £99 down to experience and move on having tried outr best .

We have an Isabella tall annex. Unfortunately, the Annex and the poles are both bulky and heavy, so we have rarely found an opportunity to take them with us.
I have seen the new 'one pole' Future Annex and I can definitely see the advantage of the new design.
Unless you specifically need the height of a tall annex (and I can't really see why you would if you only use it for sleeping) - then I would suggest the new design is the one to go for.
On the other hand, if the cost is an issue, you might find a used tall annex, but you aren't going to find a used one in the new design for a while yet. You could buy a used talll annex and give it a try - and sell it on again if you choose, without losing money. So that might be worthwhile.
You have just about convinced me that I was correct in the idea that the Fture annex is the way to go. Cost is not really an issue, if I thought I would gain from changing the van I would do so, but the idea of swapping my Hymer for a Bailey Ranger goes against the grain so that is definitely something that is being put on one side. So before long I shall buy a Future Annex and see how we go on. Thank you for your contributions.

A 3 year old doesnt take up a lot of room . Have you considered just letting her sleep in your bed .
When we had a 2 berth , we had a very large front bed, and our son was about 6 and slept in with us , plenty of room .
We slept length ways , so the bed was over 6ft wide
If you have the long front seats , you could have one each as single beds and she could have a ready bed on floor in the gap in the middle if you are against having her in the same bed.
We have the tall annex and use it with our Magnum quite frequently. Our is the older 2002 version with more acrylic used that today's version that has more coated polyester.
As "Ulti" says its frame is very heavy and bulky; its only available[or was] in steel.
Whilst its a superb annex it takes as long to put up and take down as the Magnum and this together with its weight means we only take it when we know we are needing to use it. It requires the inner sleeping tent which was a separate feature.
I have studied the Future very carefully. Versions are available for both the Ambassador and Magnum/Penta, and these come with a sleeping tent included.
It looks so much easier to erect, simply zip in, peg down and push the relatively light, diagonally set "pram hoop" frame in place. And of course its cheaper even with the inner tent.
As a bedroom solution it appears to be a lot easier option to "live with" than the tall annex and if buying today would be my choice. The cheaper Ventura tall awning also according to Isabella [at an NEC] also fits.
If you go the tall route I can give you a hint of an easier, well bit easier, way of erecting the frame etc.
my mum and dad allways took my dauter with them in there 2 birth van even when they dint atke the awaning up till she was about 11 they would set the bed up so the back cussons whent on the floor were the tabel was and they sleeped on a seat each which is very wide with a back cussion and the cusson on teh floor maid a bed for my dauter. you could try it for a couple of trips just to see how she likes it
