The wafer thin aluminium skin has corroded from the inside. My 1997 Abbey is severely blighted by this problem. And I don't really know what to do about it apart from attempt to re-panel the worst affected areas. I know it will make the caravan almost unsellable in the future, but it's just about unsellable as it is... If I can get another 3 or 4 years out of it I'll be happy.

More likely delamination of the aluminium/polystyrene than corrosion - aluminium rarely corrodes unless it has contact with another metal.
It can be laminated back together again but may be a tricky job to do and usually done from the inside, drilling a series of small holes through the wallboard and polystyrene then injecting glue into holes and pushing (and holding) the aluminium back onto the polystyrene
