Someone is coming from the dealers to check out our current van for Part Ex tomorrow, bit nervous that he doesn't find anything untoward. We've only had the van a year, although it is a 2005 model, and we have looked after it but you never know what is hiding or what they are going to say.
Do I have to take all the stuff out of it? I was hoping to leave everything in the van until just before we need to get the new one so that we only had everything clogging up the house for a day...we aren't supposed to be collecting the new van until about 6th October.
Really hoping that they don't want to lower the amount they have offered us,
I would just make sure it was not cluttered ,make sure cupboards don't look like stuff is crammed in them etc and of course have everything off the floor although if you have trouble with any water coming in and don't want him to look under cushions you could put some stuff on the cushions to put him off looking under them lol
good luck let us know how you get on.

They will likely bring a damp meter, so have all the roof/wall joints accessible. I would have it sparkling clean if it was mine, but not sure if that makes a difference with a dealer.
I wouldn't clear my van out either but I would have it spotlessly clean - others say that it won't make a difference as they will just go by the book but I'd like to show it had been well cared for.
We were going to p/x our Quasar earlier this year. Our local cowboy gave me a price of £5800 over the phone. Our dealer offered £7200 - £5800 +£1400 no p/x discount (not sure how that works)
Both took my word on condition but would check for damp on exchange.
Sold for cash instead - got £7150 then the £1400 no p/x discount!!
A friend of mine was exchanging her, very old but cared for and much loved van, for a newer model.
After convincing the dealer that her van was well worth considering, he agreed and went to see it.
She nearly died when she unlocked the door and the little four legged long tailed friends had chewed through and nested in her upholstery and wrecked it!
He wasn't bothered Said the van was so old that they would have scrapped it anyway...............
Not much help as your van is 2005 but |I thought it was a little lesson in "check your van before the dealer comes to look!"
I know when we looked round, the vans that looked clean and cared for were the ones that we would have bought second hand and any that looked grubby or had greasy marks on cookers or smelled of dogs or cigarettes (No offence to dog lovers and smokers) but that did put us off. Dealers know that and the better the p/x for them the better price they can sell on for so for what its worth I would put on a show and take on all the hints already mentioned and get the best tea set out too!!
When we PX'd ours It had just been emptied for the winter. So quick scramble up in the loft to get all the soft furnishings back down and yet another clean [had only cleaned it from top to bottom 2 weeks before and she was ready for the inspection. The dealer had a real good look round her, we agreed on a deal, then he saw our dog and said " well you can tell you don't take her with you!'......Err wrong she comes on every trip!
Well he then complemented me on how clean our 10 year old van [with carpets] was and said that he really hadn't known we'd had a dog till he saw her long nose poking out the side gate [she had heard me in the 'van and was waiting to get in the car for her next trip!]
------------- My photos allow you to see what I saw at the time that I took it....No messing.
The dealer i went to took my word. They did inspect when i brought it in the day before for a quick once over. They did however find a touch of damp ,but as good as they were they knew i wasn't aware and honoured the agreed deal!(lowdhams huddersfield)
I asked our dealer to jump in the car & come to inspect our part Ex when we bought our first new Bailey. I was happy for him to come & see what he was giving me a valuation on, then we both knew what was what. Having found no problems with the van he was happy to confirm his price, I took him back to the dealership & signed the order for the new van.
I have been told of a customer who got a valuation without inspection only to have problems found on handover & a drop in value of his part ex because of it. I'd rather know myself.
