OK, I have a campervan/day van self build and it's the only vehicle (swb boxer), and have had some great trips in it . Thing is we fancy a small caravan ie elddis 302 for the colder months, but love the camper van also for it's convenience on days out cups of tea and all that, would love a bigger one but don't want the expense of two vehicles.
So plan is to tow the small caravan with the camper van to give us a bit more luxury during the colder months. I see plenty of vans tugging but never noticed if there are camper vans !
Does this make sense or have we (me and the OH) lost the plot !!
We have a Dandy folding camper and have just bought a caravan for Winter camping in this country. Feel like I have gone over to the dark side!!! Must be getting soft in my old age!

Go with what works for you, i am beginning to understand that we all evolve in our camping/caravan/outdoor living career. I openly confess that this time last year i was a hardened land rover camper, with roof tent and would never entertain a caravan.... guess what, i now have a van and i love it. After spending a week in Feb in Snowdonia, with 1 foot of snow i was converted.
i still have the landy kited for camping but tow a van.
I say have your cake and eat it?

WE bought Toyota Granvia camper in May.
We had already booked a holiday in a cottage so when Van arrived we went on holiday in it to test it out. Loved it. Had the cottage for warmth, showers, comfort at night, but with the van and fridge, sink, gas rings, could spend endless time out in the day without looking for places to eat and being restricted by time.
Also small enough to access ordinary car parks etc and use more easily than a huge motorhome. (Still only get 25 miles to gallon though so bit thirsty)
Tried a few weekends away in it and decided I wanted my own loo - added portaloo.
Few more weekends decided I wanted my own shower...........
yep we now looking at buying a friend's caravan.
It is a step up in the luxury and more storage.
Also having own loo and shower gives more choice of sites as we don't have to consider those facilities when looking for a site.
Have a few plans: Tow with the Granvia then we can use caravan as base and explore area in the van on longer holidays.
Keep caravan on site with storage and have it towed out for weekends then just travel up in the car to keep things more economical with fuel bills.
Eventually sell Granvia and have tow bar fitted on car?/
We don't really know how things will evolve. I have a feeling the Granvia may well become redundant and although the capital outlay has now gone, it is running costs that we have to keep an eye on so this combination may well be a luxury that will eventually have to be downsized but we will enjoy it while we can:)
That's the plan.... just waiting to see if the caravan sale goes through ok.
We too thought of using this combination - loved the thought of day trips with a small camper van and possible 'spur of the moment' stop overs but the high fuel consumtion and low towing wieghts out us off. But what a lovely combination to have - truely the best of both worlds.
Just like to thank all for the positive comments, had another look at vans today and ended up putting a deposit down on the Elddis 302. Delivery about mid November, we got a great deal so we couldn't refuse.
Well that's our excuse and were sticking with it.
