Hi Mich

Bedbugs are pretty hardy creatures and are usually associated with high turnovers of travellers. Not uncommon in cheap hotels, homeless hostels for example. Has the van been used by lots of peopleas a rental maybe?

Bed bugs lurk in nooks and crannies and can rest there for years, until a new meal arrives. Signs will include bites, usually in lines of three: they like breakfast, lunch and dinner while you sleep. And tiny brown "faeces" marks on bedding like small black/brown smeary dots.

Treatment needs to be done by a specialist. You will need to expose all nooks and crannies, emptying underbed storage, wardrobes etc. it may need more than one treatment to sort them out. Talk to your local Authority pest control service. Depending on your area, they may be able to do it for you at a reasonable cost of less than £100 but if not should be able to give you advice.

You may just have fleas though! More likely in a caravan I would have thought.

Good luck

We discovered booklice in our van this year. Not the most pleasant things. Could this be what you have are you sure they're bed bugs? We've found quite a few of these on our beds.

Hi for those who are still stuck on posting photos here is my way of doing it

1 Put your photo on your desktop so it is easy to find

2 go to http://tinypic.com/?t=postupload

3 click on browse and find your photo then click on resize and i use the "website/email" option .

4 click on the upload now.

5 once uploaded copy and paste the code for forums and message boards option BUT

When you paste it Make sure the code is correct eg is wrong and should read

http://i55.tinypic.com/fn5ouq.jpg[/IMG]

Once you have copied the code, click on Add image (the square with the mountians in at the top of the ukcs reply box0 next to the smiley face

this opens a box at the top of the page click in the box and delete the http bit then paste your code in the box and click ok and HEY presto your photo appears in the reply box like this;

Hi,  Really difficult to see the detail on the photos but bedbug faeces resemble ink dots.  You will find them in groups and usually see live bedbugs (adults are about 4mm long).  The most common area is under the "bead" on the edge of the mattress.  Although a thorough inspection and treatment by a professional is your best option, you could try a household fly spray to "flush" any live bedbugs out.  Then have a thorough check around for any dead ones.  They are very cryptic and will harbour in the smallest gaps and crevices, especially close to the bed.

The patches on the top photo just don't look like bedbug faeces, they look more like staining.
