If signal quality is poor a booster will only make the poor quality signal a more powerful poor quality signal - not a better quality signal. Most digital decoders (terrestrial or satalite) can display signal strength and signal quality. You need a reasonable strength but excellent quality signal. To achieve this you need a decent quality aerial or sat dish. I would buy a better aerial for a better quality signal instead of a booster. If you camp with electric a good value aerial is available from Argos, a not too big one with a booster built in. It catches an excellent quality signal, then boosts it with an aerial mounted booster. This means it does not need a bulky 'reflector' on the back of the aerial, making it compact and lightweight for camping. Fix it to a pole, point at your local transmitter and enjoy good value excellent quality tv signal! I used one for ages until i decided to go the whole hog and get a freesat setup - but thats another story lol!! Item you want is this http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-1428744-10294381?url=http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5352526/Trail/searchtext%3ETV+AERIAL.htm , or argos item no 535/2526 , £49.99 Great quality signal and good picture from analogue and digital tv. Cheaper and better performance than what is available from camping stores. Hope this helps!
------------- Why am i doing this instead of camping??!!
We have a signal booster and directional aerial that came with the caravan. We use it all the time and mostly get a perfectly good picture as long as we make sure we know whether the signal is analogue or digital and what direction it's coming from !
Anyway - I blew a 10 amp fuse the other day (using a bloomin' 12V tyre air compressor that I'm about to send back !) - this meant that the signal booster wasn't on - so when we were in the Isle of Wight last week the signal was a bit disappointing - lots of dots every where ! So I replaced the 10 amp fuse, the light on the signal booster came on - and and lo and behold a perfectly clear picture !
So...... !?
P.S. I just checked on the CC site and the signal at Southlands (IoW) is good apparently - so perhaps caravan aerials need boosters !

went for a cheap one from Argos £8.00 and it worked a trreat
I don't really understand the technical jargon which is in the description of these items but do you know how much power these take as one of the things which appealed about the Maxview was the 12/24v low wattage which made me wonder if the standard version are heavy on the wattage? We have a status 530 aerial but will probably go with a dish & sky at some point. When we were at Rivendale the signal was there but poor and seemed to come and go (probably due to us being in a quarry!!) and I wondered if a booster may have helped.

As Doit's alluded to earlier, a booster in these circumstances will make no improvement whatsoever. You need a reasonable signal to start off for any amp to be of benefit, otherwise you're just boosting the 'noise' equally with the signal. Opt for satellite in these circumstances, taking Michael's comment on board too.
