Hi everyone!

We have had yet another eventful weekend with the kids at the caravan, which was fab. Apart from a couple of issues (one minor - the sink, one major - a huge water leak from the pump!!...)

The minor one is the one I need help with please? Our kitchen sink has a leak. It's enamel, it's round the plughole where it's leaking and my husband wants to replace it with a stainless steel one as he says it's irrepairable. It's dripping lots into the cutlery drawer and so we can't use it. We've persuaded my Mum and Dad to have the kids this weekend so me and Si can go to Wolds Way on our own and get a replacement sink fitted.

It's a 650mmx400mm sink with a right hand drainer.

My question is, are they a pretty standard size? I'm nervous getting one from ebay, the alternative seems to be a Spinflo one for around £50 plus p&p.

Oh, and is plastic or stainless steel better? He wants to avoid enamel altogether because of the rust problems.

All advice very much welcomed. He's asked me to get one for the coming weekend so I'm desperately googling, but I'm worried I'm going to end up ordering a right lemon as I really am not sure what to look for :o/

Many thanks for any help folks, as always!

Best wishes

Lucy xx

Think you might get problems getting one the same size or slightly bigger the closest I can find is a Smev 934 which is 650 x 380 (either hand)

Regards eBay, don't be nervous, many people selling caravan fittings on there are caravan stores getting rid of surplus stock or seconds (they will tell you if this is so) - check out the feedback of a seller if you are not sure - "Top Sellers" are trustworthy, they have to jump though many hoops to achieve and maintain that status.

Try this place as well, they are very good - phone them and talk to them, tell them you want it for the weekend and they'll do it.

It probably needs the waste part removing and new seal putting in. New ones do not have the waste section in, so you will have to buy new for that as well.  Perhaps it would be best to try and seal the old one to start with.

Have a look http://www.waudbys.co.uk/products/waste_fittingssinks__drainers.html

Thanks loads for your advice folks. Shirley, I showed my husband the link and he said it's corroded too badly to replace so we had to plump for a new sink.

The most annoying thing happened - we went to a local caravan spares place, and asked about a replacement sink in stainless steel. I had googled it, and it came up that Spinflo do a 650x400 sink in stainless steel for around £50ish.

The men at the shop directed us to a pile of old enamel sinks and said they had no stainless steel ones in and it wasn't possible to get new if it wasn't in their catalogue (which is wasn't).

So I chipped in and told them about the Spinflo sink. They looked at me in a very patronising way and said 'Spinflo???? Never. They're really expensive. You'll never get one for £50, especially in that size, that size is for old vans. You'll only get a second hand one in that size', the other chap said 'did you actually click on the link and check that it was stainless steel and the right size etc?'. Which I did. I KNOW I did. But you know sometimes when you feel they may have taken you more seriously if you weren't a girl???????

The man who I think owned the shop rudely rolled his eyes and walked off while I was mid sentence, very politely telling him that I'm pretty sure it was a Spinflo sink, stainless steel, 650x400. £50.

I was beginning to doubt myself...

Anyway. We got home, checked on the net, yep, it seemed right, so we ordered one.

It came super fast from Outdoor Leisure (here it is ..) and my husband fitted it on Saturday.

You know when you want to say SO NER!!!! Haha! I was so pleased, and it looks absolutely great.

I'm not a raging feminist by any means, but I am *so* dying to go back and show those chaps that even though I wear mascara, I can google properly

And....breeeeathe.

Thanks for your advice folks anyway. Our new sink has improved the look of the van ten fold! xx

Glad you have got it sorted.  We are considering a few more 'updates' to our caravan, and a new sink could well be on the list.  That seems a good price.

The only thing we did have to do was move the lighter button and another knob for the fridge for it to sit properly as the bowl was more square than the other one. It was just a case of unscrewing the fixings which the wires were sat in and moving it across a couple of centimetres, then screwing it back into the top of the fridge.

We have to make some adjustments to the panel on the fridge where the knobs come out...but it's not a huge problem. :o)
