Hee hee. I guess that went down like a lead balloon generally! I love the idea of making a caravan more personal. I do think the Linda Barker design is horrible personally, but the idea of wallpapering it and changing things is quite exciting. I had it in my mind that a caravan was something that was too complicated to faff around with like that, because it's such a different structure to my usual living space ie not plasterboard, etc.

I'm going for the safe option - looking for new curtain material, figuring out how to paint the vinyl stylie wallpaper in maybe white, possibly painting the woodwork cream or maybe sage green/duck egg blue. And the red and white chequered lino floor is something I've fallen in love with!

Not sure about the cushions yet - I don't like the thought of sleeping on 10 years of someone else's bum sweat and skin particles, but it seems quite an expensive do to sort that out.  I think we'll stick with throws and strategically placed mattress protectors for now!

I did read somewhere that a caravan manufacturer is leaving the walls bare/plain ready for the new owners to paint themselves if they like. What a fab idea!

I think pink, black and white would look great. It was all the other colours and patterns in the Linda Barker caravan that were awful.

Lucyeff, if you find out how to paint the walls let me know we are going to do something to ours to bring it more into the 21st century. I might have to wait until my cousin comes for a visit to get the curtains and seating changed. Sewing straight lines and me are not compatible.

Well that sounds easy enough. I hadn't thought about it getting damp.

Too many colours lie the Linda Barker effort would be mind scrambling in such a small space,

Our 'van is only 10 sq m. so we would need to be careful of going too wild. After a lifetime of careful I feel the need for a little bit of wild though!!

I've just received this book from Amazon called My Cool Caravan and it has some lovely pictures and ideas. And I ordered a Haynes manual on caravans, too.

We're going there this weekennd without the kids to fit a new sink and do a couple of jobs (two nights child free! Woo hooooooooooooo!) so I can see those will do for bedtime reading. Especially useful seeing as we never mastered the television aerial reception thing..!

Would love to see anyone else's pics of pimped vans for some inspiration!

I would have cried if they had done that to my van-  but then that would have made great TV.  I have just shown it to my hubby the look oh horror on his face was brilliant.

I showed it to my husband and Grandson and they were the same. They both just looked at it and said. NO.

Our cupboards seem to be sticky back plastic too and I know that stuff is hard to remove but I can't see anything other than taking it off and re-doing it. I rather fancied some silver sticky back plastic I saw for the kitchen area. as I do like the industrial look. We also have a dog and two cats so I can't have anything too light. A grey with a hint of brown should do it as that seems to be the colour they leave behind on the covers I have on the furniture.

Just a quick update....I bought a B&Q Colours Everywhere tester point (don't roll your eyes in horror all you beige diehards! It's 'antique white'!) and painted a panel on the ceiling, and a bit of the wood on the cupboards. Despite it being bumpy vinyl, it's gone on smashing!

I did buy a matt tester pot- but I'll be buying a large tin of silk. It's kitchen and bathroom and it's washable, so we're rocking and rolling! I used sugar soap wipes beforehand but did no other prep, so I'm pleased it's worked as I hate the whole sanding/priming thing.

Next step is the black/white checked vinyl flooring, new curtains. And we're going to find some nice wallpaper for the small area behind the sink/cooker, nothing too fancy, just to break up the whiteness.

I will be trying to find some ditsy floral or polka dot wallpaper to use in the middle of the cupboard doors, and maybe leave the frames of the doors wood to see how that looks. Not sure about the wood thing yet - that was my husband's idea. But we can suck it and see.

I'm also looking for some exterior paint to the outside of the van a vintage style nice sea green colour, just about a third of the way up below the metal bit under the windows.

Behind us at Malton was a lady who'd had a little van given. She'd got lots of children in there! And had a windbreak rather than an awning outside, with a table and chairs. She had some lovely stickers on the outside and a wooden registration plate someone had painted themselves. It was great to see that she'd made it look so lovely. She said she was on a tight budget like us, and the van was being given away and was staying where it was as it probably wouldn't tow. So by the sounds she saved it from the scrappers!

Listen to me. I think I've been bitten by this caravan bug, do you???? Haha!

You need to take your sunglasses.  I suppose there are a lot of other options that would be more relaxing to the eye.

Welding goggles would probably be better Brian. How do you think the number of headache tablets needed to kill the stress caused by the garish colours would affect the noseweight ???

Take lots of photos so we can all have a nosy at what you are doing.

We opened our folding caravan up today so tomorrow we will see how we can tart it up a bit. I am not sure about paint as French paint isn't quite the same as English. I also will have to learn the French for sugar soap. It will be a challenge to decorate such a small space and have it look good.

We saw a camper-van in Belgium that had been painted with a mural on the outside. It needed some renewing but I rather liked it. Bit like the hippy VW campers of the sixties but bigger. One thing was sure they wouldn't lose it on a crowded site.
