We have a Dometic 7000 series fridge when arriving home after last trip when we opened freezer compartment it made a strange whistling & hissing noise also ther was water at bottom of fridger, has anybody had this problem? if so what did they do about it. We are not sure about plugging it into electric and leaving for a couple of days as we do not keep van at home. Would be grateful of any advice
Hi surf to the Dometic site and see if there's a manual you can download. Might have a troubleshooting section.
the last time I heard a strange whistling and hissing noise it was a ruptured gas chamber letting all the gas out and rendering the fridge scrap. However this was a really BIG hissing, coming out under pressure.

Have to say this was on a fridge in the house, not the caravan and I was trying to get the freezer bit defrosted. Hit the back with something sharp and that's what let all the gas out. However, the hissing was loud, and you could see the gas escaping as a white cloud.
If that's happened to yours, then the water at the bottom would probably be condensed gas. so you may need a new fridge.
There is an alternative though, and that's one of these new freezebox things - they keep food cold for upto a week and seem very good. If they had been invented before I had a fridge installed in my very old caravan, I wouldn't have bothered. If the fridge eventually packs in, that's what I'll be buying!
