Has anyone used one of these?  Just wondered how easy/accurate they are to use.  If you check the weight of your van often at a weighbridge, or even the noseweight of your van, they seem like a good idea, and in the long run might pay for themselves and cause less hasstle.

One problem with weighbridges, is that you have to get to it before you realize you might be illegal - and then you can't do much about it - nowhere to put the excess stuff, not being at home.  Then after you have messed around moving the contents, you go back again to check.  It's a pain to have to try and load and re-load the contents of a caravan while the queue can be building up behind you.  You sometimes have to queue to get on.  That is not specifically a problem, except that at some locations, you have to queue on the road (off site, as it were) and with a caravan hovering on double yellow lines, if you are in a built up area - well you can see what I mean.  Sometimes weighbridges are located in scrap metal yards, with goodness knows what on the floor to drive over to access, or to turn the caravan around - I fear for my tyres. etc.  With my limited experience of weighbridges, I don't always find them that 'caravan friendly'.  Perhaps others have had better experiences.  Amongst this, the last time i endured the experience, I paid £15 for the priviledge.

It does seem to me that, although not cheap, would mean a reliable means of weighing in a convenient place at a convenient time, and might make the process al little less stressful.

Any thoughts?

Although I don't own one, yet, I like the idea of the weight control. Its not just total weight but I understand that it will give you side to side weight as well as nose weight. So I will also look forward to any feedback.

I've had a look at various reviews on these and checked out the info given by the manufacturer. One thing that does concern me is the amount of tolerance, plus or minus 3%. That means in a van weighing 1500kg you could be 45kg out either way.Think I would prefer something a bit more accurate for the cost involved.

Yes, you're right David - it measures the weight on the individual wheels.  Was a bit concerned at artels 3%.  We're 1500kg too - or rather will be when the upgrade comes!

plus or minus 3%

Don't get it too much out of proportion.

It still gives you a pretty good insight into loading your caravan.

The C.C. technical department state they'd be surprised if any caravan is manufactured with a side to side difference greater than 5%. That's 75 kgs on a 1500 kg caravan.

Now what if the heavy side happens to be the side with the kitchen cupboard and the wardrobe?

Hi

We have one and we think it's pretty good.

However, you do need a flat level surface to use it on - e.g. concrete, tarmac and a bit of room to move the caravan over the device.  The jockey wheel can be a bit of a faff to get weighed - as the device wants to skate out from under the wheel, so we use a plank of wood.

We don't use ours very often - but we do use it if anything significant changes with our outfit, or the equipment we are carrying.  We've used it ofen enough to recognise that the van can very easily be up to your MTPLM or noseweight allowance, without you thinking that it will be!
