We never actually realised that some sites actually have a rule barring dogs being left in vans/tents !

It's not something we'd do, we like doing things with the dogs & just don't eat out or pick places the dogs are welcome - but though I don't agree with dogs being left for long periods unattended (& definitely not in a cage) -  I must say an outright total ban seems a bit OTT to my mind.

If a dog is quite happy & not causing a nuisance then what's the problem & how is it any different being sat happily in it's owners caravan/motorhome than being in the sitting room/hall (whatever) at home ?  And how on earth is it any worse than being in the car on it's own ? (as long as it's not barking of course)

I'd like to know where all these dog-friendly places are that people find to go to. I'm on my own and find it very hard to find things to do apart from walk - and that's not so much fun on your own either.

Yes, I do go on the dogs welcome etc. web sites but, as someone else has mentioned above, dogs are public enemy number 1 these days and places to go are few and far between.

Nora

I was going to post links to Dog friendly places, but by chance before I did, I clicked on your own Welcome page, only to find that you had an absolute plethora of information and links there about dogs and dog friendly beaches/accommodation/pubs etc etc!.

However, in case they're not on your list, these links have some useful info:

It's all well and good having the information but they're not always in the right area are they? For instance, I live in Flintshire and I think there's one pub here. Pretty much the same over most of North Wales. I don't want to go in a pub on my own anyway.

As for days out, forget it. I don't do family things because I don't have a family.

Then why not try to plan your day round dog friendly pubs/attractions/beaches?

If we are going out on a long walk and aim to have lunch somewhere, then I give the pub a quick call to check first.

As for "family things", I often take our dogs out alone, and its a great way to meet and chat with people I find. As for going into a pub "alone", this is 2010, many women go into pubs alone, even if its just for a coffee, its no big deal, I'm certainly not going to be put off doing something simply because I'm a woman. The days of pubs being a mans preserve went out years and years ago. Pubs are very different places now, and actively attract women visiting alone. Why not meet up with a girlfriend and go for a coffee if you are so worried about it?

National Trust locations are also Dog Friendly, and a great many of these have a cafe/restaurant where you can go with a dog, although the seating area may well be outside, as in the case of Fountains Abbey, but that isn't a problem.

Just a tip on National Trust, its much cheaper to join National Trust Scotland that England, and you are still entitled to visit all the English sites!

I have just done a five minute Google search, and found the following pubs/hotels in Flintshire, all of which are listed as "Dog Friendly" I am sure there must be more. Enjoy!

The Drovers Arm Mold

The White Horse Inn Cilcain

The Glan Y Afon Inn Holywell

The Blue Bell Inn Halkyn
