Hello everyone,

Im a new member.....just buying a caravan ...and want advice desperately on a porch awning !

We're buying the Sprite Major 6 2010 and want a porch awing, where we are buying 1 "awning salesman" has told us the Ultima 260 is a good one, but another has said that we can't have a porch awning as it covers some of the window ?!?!?!

Please please....someone tell me there is a porch awning for us ! don't think could cope with having to put a full awning up every time we go away....

Also any advice on caravaning in general greatly appreciated.. (realise a constant supply of beer required to erect an awning !  am sure can cope with that ! )

Thanks and hoping

Deb

Hi Deb,we have an Ultima 260 on our Sprite Quattro,it covers half the window, but doesn't really affect it.All we do is use a bit of masking tape down the edges,no problems at all,

Jenny

Cheers Jenny, was starting to panic abit  thinking oh no what have we done ! so I take it it doesn't leave much of a gap then? the awning salesman was saying "don't come to us if it damages your window "....all I need with a new van.....stressing enough as it is...

Thanks Deb

There are varied lengths of porch awnings Deb and if your anxious at all I'd suggest looking for one of suitable size to clear the door and window.

I can't see an awning doing any 'damage' to the window, but maybe with movement during a bit of breeze, it's feasible the material could mark/scuff the window surface and I suppose it's this which the salesman is alluding towards (I believe one of the windows on my in-laws unit has suffered due to this).

Scratching on the surface would perhaps be irritating, especially as you've forked out for a new van.
Jedelwins suggesting of the tape would perhaps help too.

PS: Might you want to open the partly obscured window in the future?

Your porch awning looks like it will have to go over the door and the two windows either side of the door and stop short of the front window. So take a tape measure  with you and go and measure this distance (max and min !) along the awning rail. Then work out which porch awning will fit. We have a Kampa Rally 260 which is 260 cm wide. They also do a 200 and a 390 ! Other makes will have different widths !

Good Luck !

P.S. This book is excellent for new caravanners (and some old)

Can you not pull the porch to one side of the window like we do on our van so it misses the window?
