We cover ours with quilt covers & then wash them every time we use the caravan, I tuck them around tightly so they don't look baggy.
I also vac it every time we pack up & spray all the upholstery with Febreeze, some non-dog owning friends of ours visit sometimes & assure us they can't smell dogs but I don't want to get to the stage when it does smell!
We've also just hired the professional carpet cleaner "Rug Doctor" from our local supermarket, we did the carpets & settee at home then did all the caravan upholstery, it's done a splendid job on everything so will be an annual event now!
We use Dry Dog Bags (see them on ebay). It's basically a thick towel that you zip your dog into whilst they dry off & all the mud/muck stays inside the bag & the dog comes out unbelievaby clean!
Wouldn't recommend you just stick your dog in one in the caravan for the 1st time tho - they can take a bit of getting used to for the dog. We started putting them in whilst clean for a couple of minutes a time & gradually built the time up to half an hour. They know just lie down & chill when they're in them.
We cover ours with soft fleece blankets that almost match the colour of the sofas, and wash them when we get home.
You can buy them for a few quid at Asda and Tesco.

throws everywhere ,i would like to see me trying to keep them in the awning ,luckily they are jack russells and small ,but the youngest one would be out the awning like a shot, play time!!!!,throws are washed after every outing a dogs shampooed regularly, they are part of the family and look forward to the holidays ,hence the reason we got an older caravan, mind you they just laze about all day waiting for the next trip to the waters edge ,good air freshner if you get paranoid !!
I use throws too - the featherlight ones from Primark for £5 each. They are exactly the right size for the sofas and I actually prefer them to the upholstery! The dog has several fleeces anyway for the car etc. and I put one of those on top as well.
We uses throws we bought fron John Lewis as both our labs get up on the settees. They get upset if we dont let them up but I suppose that is cause they are both spoilt. Having dogs is the reason we, and a lot of others like us caravan, so they do as they do at home. As I type this our black lab is curled up on the sofa. Good job we are not houseproud!!
I cover the side my dogs use with a single mattress cover (material, but waterproof) and then a throw, with their Flectabed duvet type beds on top. Seat cushions don't smell 'doggy' at all. They know the other side is all mine!
They also have thick towelling coats, my family call them their dressing gowns, these usually dry them off before we go indoors.
Thanks all. I have been to Highbridge mooching around the used caravans today and started to wonder about the practicalities of managing the dog in a 'van. Sounds like its throws all the way!
All the vans there had been valeted to within an inch of their lives but even so you could tell the ones which had been smoked in. I couldn't detect any doggy smelling ones (maybe I am desensitised lol) but it did start me off wondering about keeping a van fresh and clean.
------------- Tackling life the Western District way
Our dog has two beds one in the awning and one in the caravan complete with doggie duvet. He does not go on the furniture at home nor in the van. If he comes in wet or damp he gets towelled off in the awning
------------- Don't know where I'm going but will be happy when I get there.
We do the same as you. Dog towelled off in the awning - we bring his manky blankie from home which he sleeps on in the caravan - cardboard underneath which gets binned after every trip. He is not allowed on the beds/settees at home or in the van. He is outside mostly anyway (he prefers this) but sits inside with us when we are in (not often as we'd rather be outside as well!)
Simple answer? don't allow them on the beds/seats! My two aren't allowed in the caravan at all, they stay on their beds in the awning and they are quite happy to do so.

That's probably the best answer! I don't have my dogs on my furniture at home (well if I'm honest, they do have their 'own' sofa in the garden room) but it suits me in the van.
A) Being on my own, I enjoy their company, B) Small van and it keeps them out of the way if I am cooking etc. I do feed them in the awning and they are quite happy out there during the day. They are retrievers and take up quite a bit of room.
