Our lab has a bed in awning and bottom bunk of the triple in the van with the mattress out and her bed in. She doesn't get up on furniture at home so just does not try in the van. She used to jump on the bed at home if we were out, but she's past that age now and happier to keep 4 feet on the floor.

Awning as dog proofed as possible with two jack russels, if they're wet they get towelled down in the awning and stay on the floor of the caravan until dry, they don't get on the seats unless their fleece is on it, at night the fleece goes on the seating (unless both kids are with us in which case they're relegated to the floor!) and they each have a mini sleeping bag which they climb into.

Couldn't leave them in the awning they'd be visiting everyone else round the site!!

I wouldn't say an awning is a must for dog owners at all - we have 2 dogs and no awning !

I agree though it would make life easier - apart from putting the damned things up and down - not an easy job if you have mobility problems (me) or are vertically challenged (wife). We are going to get one but it won't get erected if it's nasty weather at the time.

At the moment we manage ok by putting throws (tucked in) on the seats, as it's all very well telling them not to jump up, but not all dogs are angels who always do as they are told ! If they're very dirty they are towelled off outside or put in the back of the motor for a bit.

We use throws for the seats and bought some cheapish beach towels which we put on the floor. Just shake them when they get tramped in muck and put them down again.

Saves a lot of hoovering.

Pop them in the washer when we return home.

Yep we do that too ! Also have some of that squidgy non-slip stuff that comes on a roll (you know to stop rugs moving about etc) which works better for that than it does to stop the rugs walking about on the carpet.

As soon as I finish the 101 other jobs stacked up I'm also ripping up the caravan carpet & will put down vinyl or laminate flooring.

I'm in luck there Zorro our carpets are the drop in type which means yours truly can drop them out and hoover them easily!

If your list is down to 101 jobs your missus is neglecting her duties

So you have better carpets than me and a better wife ... maybe I should try for a trade-in ?

(joking honest)  better say that in case she ever looks on here ...

I did suggest to my wife several years ago trading her in for 2 x 24 year olds. The bruise took some time to fade!

I bought a couple of cheap duvet sets from Asda, pillow covers fit nicely over the side cusions, I ran them up on the sewing machine so they fit snugly doubled up.

Washed regularly they are just the job, trouble is we never get to see the upholstery which is a shame.

I love dogs but they stink and moult, and I'm allergenic and obsessed with cleanliness so I admire everyones else's, instead of having my own. If we tried to get a dog in our caravan we would all get stuck it's that small.

I petted a gorgeous lab the other day only to be left with hairs all over my legs, sneezing and my hands smelt like Ghandi's sandals.

Our dog sleeps in her basket in the caravan, think she is too lazy to jump up on the furniture
