I suggest you read my postings again, a thermostatic controlled heater is far more effective than constantly heating a space from cold. If you think thats a poor use of resources then you are entitled to your opinion and that is also fine. Telling fellow campers what equipment they can and cant use again is a matter of opinion. I do not see why people need to take away microwaves, portable electric ovens, portable washers and driers but I have seen them all named on here. Please do not call individuals irresponsible because they chose to use them.

Is that statement as true for a fabric awning as it might be for a bricks-and-mortar house?

That isn't true at all. Leaving a heater or something like an immersion on 24/7 is far more expensive than just heating up when needed.
I would have nothing against anyone running one in the awning for a couple of hours in the evning whilst sitting out having a glass of wine and a chat but for someone to leave one running 24/7 leaving someone else to pick up the bill it totally selfish and irresponsible.
Spot on Jackie, its simple thermodynamics and a blatant disregard to the environment. I wish more sites would have metered supplies and then those who use excessive amounts would pay for it rather than being subsidised by others.
