Has anyone used one of these? They are less expensive to buy than the Alko, but does the Alko do any more/ any better than the Excalibur? To echo a related thread: has anyone ever had a van stolen with one of these fitted. I noticed that our local caravan dealer uses them on their vans. I know they are good, but with Alko, I just wonder if you are paying for the 'brand name'?

At home I use 2 Bulldog QD44 wheel clamps along with the Robostop and a couple of rear leg locks. But when touring I replace the QD44s with my Excalibur as it is far lighter and more convenient to carry around. Regarding it is safer than the Alko one, they both only take a few seconds to be cut off, so to does it really matter !

Our tourer days are over and we have moved on to a Hobby Motorhome
If they go on easier, does this mean they are easier for the thieves to get them off?
They will both come off with cutting torches
It goes on easier because the part that goes between the wheel spokes is thinner and not made to fit specific wheel patterns
This gives more leeway as to wheel position
If its used with the Excalibur receiver/chock it can be fitted on either side of the van whichever is easiest in terms of levelling the van and lining up
It can also be fitted in front or behind the wheel relative to direction of travel
I put the Alko clamp on the nearside and the Excalibur on the offside especially if the awning is up and the Alko can't be seen

Another reason I am tending to go towards the Excalibur is that the Excalibur is more of a visable deterrent than the ALKO.
Outdoor leisure specificaly state Excalibur does NOT fit onto the existing ALKO receiver which MUST be removed !?
I Emailed them to confirm this, which they have done.
I was about to order one as it seemed an ideal multi use lock.
1.Would fit existing receiver(alko)less critical for position.
2.Used with its own receiver with several options for position on either wheel.
So......has lock spec now been changed to avoid legal conflict....looks a lot like it.!

...Oh!! That's a real shame. Was just about to get one.
The ones from here fit. In fact they state specifically that they are to be used with the ALKO receiver. It says (capitals copied!!) "DOES NOT COME WITH RECIEVER, TO BE USED WITH ALKO RECIEVER ONLY." - although they did spell receiver wrong?
Towsure have been advertising as I posted above that the wheel chock is not included
Its connected to the arm that the receiver is on !!
I bought mine from Towsure and it does come with the receiver and chock and it does fit the Alko receiver which by a strange coincidence is the same thread as the Excalibur
They don't look as solid as the alko ones. The plate looks as though it could be cut through easier with a gas torch. The problem is that there are few figures on the track records of these devices. There is a big price advantage but they would probably still need a twin axle to be jacked up to fit.
I think that in fact cutters are used on the receiver rather than the lock plate and as the Excalibur covers a bigger area it could make that more difficult
They will deter most thieves but determined tooled up ones with gas torches will still be able to cut off most if not all wheel clamps on the market
As to the twin axle still needing jacking up what you have to consider is that you can put the Excalibur on any of the 4 wheels using its own receiver or the Alko ones and you can also put the receiver in front or behind the wheel relative to direction of travel so there is a lot more chance that a second wheel will line up
We use the excalibur wheel lock and it DOES fit where the alko one should. we have a 2010 swift and it was cheaper and easier to fit than the alko one and can be fitted even if the tyre valve is in line with the alko receiver.
HTH.

In the end we decided to go for the Excalibur. Haven't fitted it yet though. It comes with three washers or spacers, and it looks like trial and error as to which one to use. Does anyone have any experience of fitting one to a Pageant 7? I assume they will all be the same size - which washer/spacer did you use? Just trying to save a little time and effort.

John - which of the washer/spacer things do you use on the California? Is your California a 2009 model? There's a chance that my 2009 Sancerre will be the same.
