Telemetry is a technology that allows remote measurement and reporting of information. The word is derived from Greek roots tele = remote, and metron = measure. Systems that need external instructions and data to operate require the counterpart of telemetry, telecommand.
Although the term commonly refers to wireless data transfer mechanisms (e.g. using radio or infrared systems), it also encompasses data transferred over other media, such as a telephone or computer network, optical link or other wired communications. Many modern telemetry systems take advantage of the low cost and ubiquity of GSM networks by using SMS to receive and transmit telemetry data.
I still haven't a clue! Is it a radio controlled tv aerial?
I have it on my van, when it arrives in nov. handy if you are on a seasonal pitch, and the weather is cold, and you are on your way to the van, and want it nice and warm when you arrive, It costs £230 to be fitted. plus you need an iphone to use it.

Bill - can you tell me which van you are buying? We are looking at a Buccaneer which has the telemetry but weren't aware it had to be an Iphone?

hi am buying the Eldiss super sirocco. from discover at chorley. The salesman at the time said to me that i can have this fitted. he asked wot phone i used, it was just a normal phone, he told me i needed an iphone, so i got one. May be you need an app? to work the heating, There isnt a manual out just yet to explain how it does work, i read it was just a tx, but how does it know what setting you want the heating at?May be someone might know more about it on here.

I've sent an email to Alde asking them about whether the Telemetry SMS is phone specific - I'll let you know when I hear back from them.
Interestingly the Buccaneer site says "The 2011 Buccaneer range is spectacularly equipped with specification that not only looks superb, but adds another dimension to your touring experience. ........Useful - and totally unique to Buccaneer - is the Alde heating with telemetric controls. Quite simply, you can control your Buccaneer's central heating and hot water from your mobile phone " So clearly they think it's exclusive (although Elddis & Buccaneer are in the same group) and they don't seem to say it has to be an Iphone!
I have received a prompt but not entirely complete answer back from Alde!
Good morning The SMS box is not an Alde part. It will not require a specific phone to operate. However from my experience, SMS boxes do not all work with all service providers. It is well worth contacting Explorer/Elddis and asking them which service providers the unit works 100% with. Best Regards Sapphire Hodgkin Technical Sales Administrator Alde International (UK) Ltd
