we have a Abbey 416 thats fitted with PMS 7 ELectrical Panel,

my first question is regarding charging, i understand that when the 3 way switch is in Van position that the 12v electrics are powered from the battery, then when you turn the charger switch on when on mains hookup the battery begins to charge as well as power all the 12V, is ok to leave it on charge premaritally when on mains to stop the light draining the battery, ? or will it overcharge the battery ? or is it better to use the battery then when it gets low put in charge until full again.

My second question is at the front of the van under the RH seat where all the cabling and the water heater is there is strange plug in slot with a electronic type card in it, there is a spare attached to it as well, the card has a plastic handle with tracks on a circuit board, any ideas what it is for ?

We always leave our charger on all the time, no reason not to.

Not sure about your card thingy.

On our previous van we had a "thingy" that slotted in on the fuseboard, if removed the van lights did not work. It was supposed to be a security device.....as in if you removed it and the van was stolen, the thieves might get stopped by the police for not having lights.

My understanding is that caravan chargers have protection to prevent overcharging. Like Jennifer our charger is on all the time we are connected to the mains and that has been the case for our caravans going back over several years.

On your second point, is there any chance of a photo?

Hi ya,   We have an Abbey 416 GTS also and my charger is permanently switched on.  The van is coming up 2 years old and we have not had a problem and we run on battery, electric and generator...

Many thanks for your answers, i have another question regarding a motor mover, saves making another thread, due to a very difficult driveway we are looking to fit one, the drive is flat however access is gained via a steep road, the road is over a 1 in 4 gradient (its about 1/6)so the mover wont go up it BUT will it hold on the hill ? what are are looking to do is pull up the hill with the car then stop directly outside the drive way, then unhook rotate the van 90 degrees and drive it in, the mover will be rotating on the hill rather than pulling the van up, my biggest worry is will the mover hold on the hill until we begin to turn the van ?
