Just about to move from a folding camper to a caravan and wondered if it's worth waiting for the next NEC to purchase. Are there big discounts available for new models at the show or are the discounts only in the region of £500?
Opinions here will differ - but for what it's worth I've bought my last 3 vans at NEC and have always had a better deal than available elsewhere. I do tend only to deal with more local dealers ie not just round the corner, but around an hour's drive away. Last van was a year ago and came in at around £500 discount ( ie no delivery charge) plus a new mover fitted nad a chest of drawers. Previous van - 5 years earlier was from the same dealer and saved me over £2000 compared to best very 'local' deal.

I bought my 1st van from the NEC this year and got a really good discount at nearly £1,500 less than I'd been quoted prior to the show. All dealers will have their 'show prices' which I've found will not normally be matched away from the event.
I now follow the policy as explained by jaiash.Use a local dealer if you can as although any authorised dealer can do warranty work only the seller will take an interest in it. I gather this is because the makers pay about half the usual labour rate for such work.you will get a good deal at the show.
I almost bought a new van at the NEC last year. I was offered a great £2500 trade in on my old van that cost me £2500 5 years ago!
The downside was that he was going to charge full retail price on the new van. I am sure I could have negotiated the biggest part of the trade in value off the cost of a new van if I had not gone for the part exchange, so the fantastic part exchange he was offering made the deal look much better than it really was.
Any dealer is looking to do a deal, whether at the NEC or not... That is what makes them dealers. It is quite possible to negotiate with dealers on the phone and save a lot of money. If you are going to the NEC, take the phone numbers of your local dealers with you and after discussing your options with the dealers at the show, make a few phone calls. The odds are that your local dealer will match anything you get offered at the show over the phone and you won't have to travel all over the country to collect it and so on. You can also go back to the dealer at the show and tell him that you have just spoken to your local dealer and he is prepared to match what you were offered so they can either beat it or lose the sale.
When it comes to negotiating with dealers, nomatter where you are, you have to be ruthless and be prepared to walk away.
