I remember when we put down lamnate flooring at home. Underneath we had to lay some sort of insulating/warmth stuff that did/does an excellent job. I wonder if something like this underneath a carpet would make it nice and cosy?

It would, definitely, but unfortunately my hubby is allergic to DIY so I'd have to pay for it and can't really afford it.
It will have to be a carpet runner and woolly socks and a radiator !

........ mind you, I know what he means - I only do it with lots of support - fortunately the wife is quite good. The trouble with carpet runners is that they do tend to 'walk'. We have a rug in our lounge - on top of the laminate floor, which tends to move a bit. We bought some felt type non-slip stuff to put underneath which helped - you just cut it to size (a bit smaller than the runner) and the runner just rests on top. Just might help. A lot of the loose carpets supplied with vans these day come with velcroe to help them stop slipping. We insisted that the velcroe was not put on ours though - my experience is that the velcroe acts as a dirt trap and I always think that bits of velcroe stuck to the floor looks a bit odd if ever you want to take up the carpets and use without for a time. Each to his/her own though.
The air temperature in the van will be fine, The problem usually is cold draughts at floor level . I divert these draughts by temporarily sealing the low level vents between storage space and living space ( not the through the floor vents) and the improvement is remarkable .
I know its a while since this thread was active but I have just bought an old Abi Debutante 2 berth :) and I love it. It is bone dry and toasty warm...the carpet makes a big difference. Just wanted to thank you for the info on weights etc as we didn't have a clue...You can't find any info about it anywhere :/
We are having problems with the fridge. it seems to work ok on gas but we cant seem to switch to 240v and we cant try it on the battery yet as the cold weather has flattened it so I am waiting for a new one to arrive, do you have any tips on working the fridge? any info you have would be a great help. You wouldn't happen to have the caravan manual do you?

There's me offering to help if you need more info and my 'van's in storage. So I can't pop out easily and look but we never had any problems - just turned the button to 240v and it worked fine.
I have got a manual - but it's in the van (doh!) and the van is 15 miles away and due to work/family stuff won't be able to get to it this weekend nor next week. I don't remember anything much in the manual on the fridge to be honest.
Have you checked that the zig panel is switched to mains (the panel just next to the door)? Have you proved that mains works - is there anything else running off mains OK?
The zig panel switches are a bit stiff. The van is in storage too so we are going to try to get up next weekend so we can spend time and see exactly what is working and what's not. The manual would be a massive help if we have to start stripping and replacing electrics. We havn't been out in the van yet, we picked it up then put it straight into storage so we havn't had much time to look it over properly. I trade at motorbike rallies in the summer and this is going to be our new house!! The heater is working fine and so is the cooker hob. I think the oven will be good when we clean the jets out as it lights but won't stay lit. We knew when we bought it, because of it's age that things have a good chance of not working and may need repairing or replacing so any information we can get would be fantastic!! Would you be able to send me a copy of the manual somehow, when you get the chance to go to your van?
We have just bought new cables and sockets etc for mains hook up and towing so hopefully this might resolve some of the issues, We plan to go away for a few days in march so we can fully test everything out...fingers crossed!!
Many thanks for your help Feezee, you are a life saver!! Trying to find any info on this caravan is a nightmare...it's as though it never existed!!

to stop my rugs moving on cushionfloor/laminate I use that clingy web stuff. A couple of sqares of it under the rug and you get no movement. You can buy it from Wilkos and no need for anything stuck to the floor.
