The folks here seem to have covered just about everything!
Supermarkets can be open 24/7 these days so forgetting some everyday item isnt the end of the world.
A couple of things I would always recommend to you to have though, are a spare toilet roll or two, and a torch to get you around after dark; a flask for hot drinks when on the move ( no, you wont be bothered get the cooker going in the van in your journey, trust me on that one) and some Milton tablets to make sure your water pipes are clean etc if its the first outing for the van for a while.
On the technical front I always check wheel torque before I roll, for peace of mind. Got a torque wrench from Argos for a few quid. Ive heard of wheel bolts undoing themselves as you drive, which must be disastrous if you are actually towing.
I dont personally want to travel to get away from it all and end up watching telly with real life intruding once again, so for me it has to be Radio4 and some nice CDs, a decent cuppa and an early night snuggling down in the fresh air with the radio or a good book.... after all, caravanning really is about just doing your own thing, whatever that is.
Enjoy your first trip, and welcome to the hobby
