Hi all, We used to be into our Camping for a few years and have now decided to convert to a Caravan, We bought a Bailey Ranger 500 5 and had a couple of days away last week but due to the weather we couldn't try out the Awning. (due to the high winds lol).

My Question does it sound Stupid to book on a local site for a couple of nights to try our awning out only i've heard the weather for next week should be fairly dry?

no we did this,we tried out the van and awning and everything else at a local CCClub site for three days.had a fabulous time so go for it.we too have the 500/5 ranger.

Nothing wrong at all in going away anywhere in the caravan

Hi our local CC site is 2.5mls up the road (Burrs park). The caravan is 6 miles away in storage and its an 13 mile tound trip to get the van and stay there for a few nights, when you can get in.

Every little bit helps, and if you forget anything or something comes up we are only 2 miles from home. We also no of other caravaners whom on come 1.5 miles from there home to site.

Just enjoy open the wine and let the good times roll.

Hi kevtore999-- take a look on the computer weather forecasts before next week as they have just said that next weekend-the 26th - 28th they are forecasting snow.  We listen to weather and enquire on the net as this is our wedding anniv weekend and we always go away- manily to York but this year we are off to Ludlow for the Christmas Medeival Xmas fair and market..  Good luck for when you go- dont worry about a thing.  We have been campers(tent) for many years and 3 yrs ago we changed to a Bailey caravan----never looked back.  Try it on EHU and then if you are a memeber of the C&CC go on a DA meet or THS on no elec, try using the battery and you might want to look at getting later on a solar panel.  We only EHU 2 nights a year and it will be next weekend- by the sounds of the snow it may come in handy. cheers gary

Its a damn good idea - I always do it with a new awning. Gives you the opportunity

1. To check all the bits are there and that nothing is damaged

2. To gain the experience of the best way to erect it

3. To colour code the poles - I use insulating tape

These things are far better done at your leisure than when you arrive for your first real outing in the pitch dark and a hurricaine
