Just spotted an article in the December Camping and Caravanning Magazine by Ian Geddes (page 32-35) that might be useful for those going out when it's a bit colder, i.e. freezing. It has a 'tips' section at the end and includes such advice as:
1. Take rock pegs for the awning
2. Take Propane not Butane
3. Water: external pipes may freeze; keep a jug of water in the van ready for the morning; bring in external water pump over night; if you are on a super pitch, bring in the long water hose that connects from the tap to the aquaroll
4. Empty grey water every night, or consider using an open bucket
5. Jackets are available for the aquaroll - keep the aquaroll off the ground (stand or blocks)
6. Ensure good ventilation in the van to help the condensation issue
7. Carry enough gas to augment the electric, especially for heat and in case of electricity trip
8. Keep a close eye on the weather forcast - postpone, head off early or stay a little longer of the road weather conditions look poor. "Driving should be avoided in the worst weather as a bulky touring unit will be barely manageable."
Full marks to the C&CC and Ian Geddes for the article - the article gives much more information/ ideas and there are other articles on Christmas Markets etc. - worth a full read, IMHO. No doubt the CC magazine will have it's own Winter Advice, although I don't think I have had my copy of that yet - unless it's somewhere underneath this pile of papers on my desk?! Just thought this might be useful to share and might open a thread where folk could add any other recommendations for those who are able to go out when the conditions are a little more severe.
