Hi all i have recently bought another 1st caravan after years of building my way up to a new one a couple of years ago ! The only thing i am struggling with is the gas hob ! now the caravan is quite old but does have double glazing , however when i light the hob it does light but then explodes and blows itself out ! Any ideas why ????
Many thanx
Some good pointers on this thread, but I think that there is also another aspect that merits consideration. As this van is new to you I wonder if it came with a test certificate for the gas equipment in the van. Ideally the gas systems should be checked at least every three years by a competant gas engineer. That engineer will check for, at least....
- A check for gas leaks and condition of pipework and hoses
- Ventilation check (air inlets are clear and adequate)
- Flue check (smoke spillage test)
- Checking safety devices are work correctly
- Appliances are safe to use
As you say that the gas "explodes", that would give me cause for concern on a safety level.
If there is no current gas test/inspection certificate it would be beneficial to have the system checked, and, perhaps, before just checking the cooker by turning the gas on! A gas safety check should cost no more than about £50.
Also, just check with your insurance policy to see whether it is conditional upon such test certificates being required every so many years. If so, and you don't have one then you may not be insured.
