Hi Everybody,

I've just Booked to go to Rookesbury park cc site after reading the reviews on here,

I'll be travelling down from Lancashire and was looking at using M6 toll road, M42,M40 then A34, having never done this route before and only towing a caravan for 18 month, can somebody advise me what the A34 between the M40 (junction 9) and the M3.

Also any info on the site and area greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking & reading

Dunc.

We go from Telford to Portsmouth,
The A 34 is a dual carriaeway, have a look on Google Earth http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl
We always stop at Sutton Scotney for a break, a proper service station, just for the toilets.
There are plenty of lay-bys but very hard to get out once your in it lol.

Excellent road as Jusy said all dual carriageway. Apart from round Oxford it tends not to be a s busy as some of the alternative motorways. Drove from MK to Newbury yesterday and there seem to be a few pt holes now but hopefully these will be repair before you want to use the road. Rookesbury is a nice site and handy for both Southampton and Portsmouth. Have some pictures on my website.

In most respects the A34 is an excellent towing road between M40 and M3. The only reservation is that the normal lane is badly tram rail grooved in places by the heavy commercials. This causes my van to track oddly on occasions when its wheels drop into and get stuck in them. No big issue if you know about it but disconcerting if not aware.
As a local to Rookesbury Park, I even towing, leave the M3 at Junction 11 following the brown Marwell Zoo signs initially. Then passing Marwell stay on the B2177 through Bishops Waltham and on till the roundabout with the A32 at the far side of Wickham [Shell garage and cheapest fuel locally]. Turn left here for 1/3rd mile then right back onto the B2177 again; then its onto the Rookesbury turn off.
Whilst this is poorer single carriage road it saves a long and doubling back detour via the M27. Be warned the road designation changes at times but the route is pretty obvious.

The only other thing to remember, the A34 does have some hills on it, albeit gentle ones as it is a dual carriageway. Its so very easy to let the speed drift up whilst going down hill, one puff of wind and a snake can easily start.  Just check your speed when descending the rolling hills.
