we've had our van for nearly a year, its only a year old. been in storage which we pay 160 quid for!!! just had a telephone call that its been broken in to & the scumbags have stolen our radio system  (which is bulit in as its a ranger gt60) very very annoyed, but the worrying thing is they just stuck a screwdriver (we think) into the lock & it popped right open!!! luckily we remove most things so they just got our radio. could anyone advise us if there is anything extra we could add to the door area for extra security? alternatively, a more secure site in the upper swansea valley. thanks

sorry about your van, there are better locks you can fit but a better storage site is preferable. see

If they can't pop the door, they will pop a window. I think there would be more damage to a window than a door. I would look for another site preferabley CASSOA graded.

I agree with Surfer01 on this, the more secure you make the door the more damage they will cause getting in and if the site is not manned 24/7 they will have all the time they want to force either the door or the hinges. If they get in easily the alarm should be set off which I would have thought would deter most thieves form loitering in the area unless they can disable the alarm :(

Hi Allison, There was a caravan storage place in seven sisters just off dulais rd (A4109)

Behind the golf range, only 15 min drive from Swansea, not lived in seven for over 2 years but it did look a very good place, hope it helps,

Ours is in storage at riverside caravan park morriston, swansea AT THE MOMENT ,
BUt WE HAVE just got ourselves a permanent pitch in Gower starting March 1st, so riverside will have at least one storage space when ours goes.
We have had storage ther a few years ,march to march , no problems .its about £300 a year if I remember rightly. and you have to have insurance too, its a secure site, high walled with digital gate entry and I think its manned all year round as they have statics and seasonal pitches for tourers .

Allison -

Sorry to hear about your break-in. As others have said a CASSOA site might offer better security, Silver or Gold if you can find one. You might have to pay a bit more though if your reference to £160 is per annum. In the Midlands £300 - £450 is more like the range.

Same as Beefysmum, we store at the Riverside, Morriston but like anywhere else, all you need is one piece of scum to ruin it. Last year we had a front, road light lens ripped off. Unfortunately he damaged it and it was no use to him. We found it a few caravans down from ours. I had to buy a new set. Yesterday we discovered (probably the same bloke. Can't believe it's a woman) had pinched the rear light retaining screws from the unit. It seems someone is using our van for spares. Afraid there's no such thing as guaranteed security whatever the storage.
