Just had new van with this heating system. We are going for our first outing to Morton in Marsh tomorrow (weather permitting) and have mastered the basic controls at home but have a question about setting the amperage control. The directions appear to have lost something in translation at least that is how it appears to me.My convenient and simple interpretation is that if the site EHU is say 16 amps can you set the amp control to 16 amp and not blow the site electrics or is it more complex than this?

If I remember correctly this feature only works if the optional current sensing unit is fitted.

There is a symbol on the control unit which says "amp".Does this mean that it has this facility?

To see if this facility is fitted I suppose you could simply experiment by trying to set it at various levels and then overloading things. As Alde say in the Handbook if your van MCB trips then its set too high or it is not actually fitted. I have personally never played with it or delved to find if it is fitted, its left in the default "off" setting.

The optional sensor that is needed clips over the mains input cable within your caravan.
To see what this sensor looks like you need to download mobile catalogue No19, it is then part number 3010-246 on page 13. "Overload Protection"

Hi MrG, We are collecting a Bailey unicorn in a couple of weeks and Alde heating is new to us. How did you find the hot water temperature and how long to get hot from scratch

The hot water was good. We went away in the cold a few weeks ago (first time out in it) and the van was as warm as you want it without those cold spots on the floor level. We took advice and put the heating on in the van for a few hours before we set off at about 20 degrees.(Also about 15 degrees over previous night). After a 2 hour journey the van was about 15 -16 degrees when we arrived. We started on both 3Kw electric and gas.It reached 20 - 21 very quickly while we were setting up.After this we just used 2 Kw electric and it was fine. There were just the two of us and we both showered at night. The water was hot enough for this without giving priority to hot water on the control. We did have a knock on the door one evening. He had just arrived and couldnt sort the heating so we,well my wife, set it up. He and his very cold wife were frezing and it did take a while to heat up on a very cold evening. We set a night temperature of 15 which I found a bit too warm so we may use it lower at night. The outside temperature was well under freezing. The controls are in a position that makes them hard to read and once you get the hang of it the system is great.I hope this helps.

Just a word of caution:

The Alde system has the capability to get the water extremely hot [80C], which is good for storing a lot of energy, but as caravan makers generally don't fit tap thermostat/mixers it can scald so be careful.
Those with plastic sinks ought also to bear this in mind.
