Yes they do work on gravel. Most hardstandings are gravel/ stone chip and everyone gets their van on.. They can get up a slope so long as you are not talking about some silly steep gradient and the power of the mover is at the right level. You do need a high amphour battery for the extra power they need to scale the slope...say 110amphour. Powertouch reckon that their mover can move a 1200 kg caravan up a 1 in 4 slope. Its best to ask the seller if the mover you are after can do what you want.

It actually depends on the size of the gravel. When we had a Pennine Pullman with a motor mover we had no problem with the mover moving it, as long as we kept on eye on the jockey wheel. If we didn't and particularly if we were reversing it on, because it was quite small gravel we used to get a little pile dragged up in front of the jockey wheel if it started to sort of dig in, then of course everything stopped until we cleared it..
If using it a lot on gravel then you will be better off with a jockey wheel with a pneumatic tyre. We used to use a rhyno mover to move our old van up our drive below.
Because the mover was sold on with our last van, I am thinking of getting a front pushbar for the car. Cheaper and can also be used for our horse trailer.
I would be guarded against buying a new battery just because you intend to fit a mover. It depends how much/often you use the mover and the condition of your existing battery. We fitted a powrtouch to our Bailey Bordeaux and have a 96a/h battery which has cpoed fine all year moving the van in and out of storage and on and off site 8 times this year. Yes a bigger battery would be better but if like us if you have a new 96a/h I would stick with it.

watling front towbar and watch the video
Brian i have just looked at the website and the front towbar for a discovery like the one i used to have is £162 plus £10-56 for a ball and cover
or you could use your own or buy one from any caravan/trailor shop.
You dont have to go to Watlings to have it fitted mine was fitted while i was on holiday in Cornwall by a towbar fitter in Plymouth.
The website lists all the cars that can have them fitted, even small cars like the ford focus can have one
