One question to ask is "if my car is involved in crash/breakdown while NOT towng, making the car un useable will the recovery service recover the caravan? The only recovery companies that I know will are the policies available via the C&CC & The CC,& this is especially important when abroad
Another vote for Mayday / Green Flag through the CC. Having been a member of this and the RAC, Mayday beats the pants off the RAC on service, cover and value for money.

Switched to Mayday/Green Flag a couple of years ago when I discovered that my renewal cost for AA was considerably more than they were charging new members!
I've only used them twice, once when I locked myself out of a hire car and they arrived quickly and accessed the car quickly. The 2nd was just over a week ago, was packing the caravan and suddenly noticed one of the tyres was flat. Inflated it but it was flat again within a day. Started trying to get the spare wheel carrier out but struggled with it. Then remembered about Mayday, phoned and they arrived just within the hour, then the guy took an hour to get the spare off the carrier. I would never have got it off; the wheel was then changed in barely 10 minutes.
The last time I called out the AA, they took nearly 3 hours to get to me when I was sitting on the slip road off the M74 adjacent to the Abington services!! A disgrace!!
have just renewed the insurance on the Sorento, and have taken out the AVIVA recovery says its with the RAC does cover the size of our van, does anyone have any experience of using them ?

We are with the RAC and got splendid service a couple of years ago when my gearbox went in Derby. We were collected quite quickly and taken home via the storage site to put the van away

RAC is part of Aviva. If vehicle is large will prob be the Commecial section of RAC that deal with any recovery. C&CC use Rac(and their commercial side) for cover. And it is very good.
I use RAC with recovery & family membership, I've been with them 36 years but never used them when towing. They assured me there's no limit on outfit size & as I'm offered a reduced membership fee through my membership of the C&CC I hope they'll back up their claims should the need arise. They've been brilliant up to now so I see no reason why they'd be different when the caravan is involved.
The no restriction bit is because of the c & c club membership.
Rac has specific camping & caravan cover. At a very good price.
Normal RAc cover does have restrictions. Normal Rac cover does not cover caravans over a certain length or vehicles over a certain length/ weight. Check very carefully! (I used to work for them by way)
We have the AA, recovered us from the start of the M4 last year and took the landrover and the caravan all the wy to Cornwall, put the cravan on the pitch for us then took the car to a landrover specialist for repair, also arranged for a loan car, We also hve the break down repair cost cover, so the car was repaired at no cost to me, can't falt them and won't change!
