I'm start to look at a new caravan and have seen some big discounts advertised on the internet. A Swift 570 which is £17800 on the road is available for £15935 on the road. I will be going into my local dealers and asking them for a price. What sort of discount should I be looking at getting off the price of a new van?

Cheers for any advice.

It all depends on the van type, season, stock, availability and popularity of the van, also don'f forget how much one is prepared to haggle. Have a price in mind when going to the dealer and play one off against the other. We bought our van new and got a discount of approx 2.5 k,  however the down side was there was no starter kit included in that discount. With the market being so boyant it may be difficult to get a decent discount, because dealer know that for every one who secures a mega deal there will 3 or 4 that don't.

Happy hunting and don't loose out, be prepared to walk out even on what looks like a mega deal, you might just get a little more off. have a look around the dealership, see how many new vans they have, and how many appear to be sold. It can work both ways, poor sales big deals bigh commisions, good sales, big deals saleman being greedy. still high commisions.

Best of look.

If you're trading in it's difficult to know how much discount, if any you are getting.

Much better to sell your caravan (best time is Whitsun) and buy in the Autumn for a new caravan being delivered in the New Year. The dealer doesn't have to carry stock and a customer is waiting.

Beware of bargains which might be 2010 caravans and although brand new and unused are already a year old. You'll lose out when it comes to selling on or trading in.

Hi Trooper Man, If you are not in a rush for new van, I would wait and see how this recession goes, if it gets worse, the vans will come down in price, and remember the longer the dealer holds on to a van, it will deprecate even further, they could be left with a lot of stock, and no turnover, could find that they give all the extras as standard, and throw in a weeks stay at a site of your choice,as did a few dealers local to me did the last recession.

-------------
If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.

Hi
Just make sure that it isn't an ex demo van that they are selling. We bought one and had endless problems with it, if your not bothered that 100s of people have been walking in and out, opening the doors and pressingnall the buttons then fine, but, make sure if its a brand new one you want thats what you get. We've just changed ours and got a unicorn Barcelona 3grand cheaper because we didnt px we sold our own private on ebay. I would expect at least 10% off if not more depending on what your buying? Good luck

Got quoted a good discount but been offered a rubbish part ex price. I'll have to sell private and look around when my van goes. I need to change this year as we've outgrown this one so want another one sorting before we go away.
