Hi Gillian, it's worth checking the regulator, to ensure that whatever type of bottle you get, the regulator will fit. Different types need different regulators I suspect.
The general size used by most is 6-7.5kg. Some vans look like they can take a larger bottle but when you read up on them, they are often not built for taking the really big ones, even though cabins at the front have a bed which will fit the 14-15kg bottles.
For me 7.5 kg blue, our first trip every year is in Feb and I've been vanning with the kids in snowy conditions before now, and no problems so far with lighting up the cooker etc so we've stuck with this as it is the most widely available, but other types of gas are getting much more available now.
However, we're southern softies, and live/holiday mainly in the south, so conditions here arn't generally that bad.
