yes if you are washing up with it.i use milton. fill system and leave for one hour only as water heaters have a stainless tank and they do not like milton. water heater should get to 70 but may not be enough to kill all germs. i do ours once or twice a year or after a long period of not caravanning.

You shower and wash your hands?...the system can harbour germs and what is commonly called gunk!
You wash your pots?
Do you give the dog water from the tap but you have bottled water?
Do you brush your teeth in the caravan?
Give the pipes etc a good clean at least twice a year

Don't have a dog but wouldn't give out of taps!! Yes we do brush our teeth and wash pots. I am usually germ phobic so this is a big oversight for me! I was trying to "chill" about my obsessions but seems I have chilled to much
It seems a bit of a faff to sterilise all the system and wait an hour before we can set everything up if we only away for a weekend but guess if we need to be safe and you are recommending it then we should do it.
Had our van 3 years and have never sterilised the system. We don't use it for drinking and it is used all the time we are away as we don't use the facilities on site. It is emptied everytime we come home.
Its a bit like cleaning your carpets and dusting around the van. Just as you can have all sorts in the fabrics we all know about water based illnesses and bacteria so why not clean the water system as well.
Just to assist your germophobia
Then fill your water hog

used Milton at the end of our season in the aqua roll but had had the FC since Easter and never thought about it and still all is well with us! Use to wash dishes, teeth, the dog bowls and fill the kettle. Also use as drinking water on odd occasions and not had any ill effects at all. I think if your stomach is normally hardy you will be fine, if not then take extra care.
I use Milton Tabs at the beginning of every season. Then I make sure that every bit of the sys has had the solution standing in it for at least an hour, then drain, then rinse well, then drain again. Then air dry.
After that big clean, I just drain all the water out when I return from a trip and air dry the water container.
I use the water sys for drinking water and all washing chores. No way am I carrying extra water when I don't have to!

Similar thing happened on a CC site where a dog owner was encouraging her dog to drink directly from the drinking water tap. The sad thing was that she didn't to think it was wrong.
On a slightly more positive note has anyone tried the Truma water system sterilising chemicals? I have been using Puriclean and wondered if there are any advantages of one over the other. Puriclean definitely works better than Milton on my system and when I first used it a mass of gunk came out of the pipes that Milton had not removed.
