Hi Guys I am wanting to purchase a hitch lock for my alko stabiliser however looking on ebay they seem to be for different models. Does anyone know how to differentiate between the models and if so how.

Thanks for your help

Hi Christian

Seeing that you want to buy an Alko hitch Lock then I assume you have an Alko tow bar on your caravan.

In you caravan paperwork there is normally a little leaflet on the Alko towbar you have with your caravan so look in there for types.

BUT be carefull buying one on flea-bay, as make sure you get the code number with the lock otherwise if you lose the key your really in for some fun getting it off.

Mike

Cheers for that Mike.

Cannot find the detail within the paper work; is there another way of identifying the model?

Thanks again

Hi Christian, I did this myself in December.  I've got the alko 1300 which looks a little different to the 2004 and 3004 models.  I believe the model No also denotes the weight that the hitch is meant for.

Picture of 1300

I was told by my dealer that the type of hitchlock are all pretty inter changable, so I took a punt and purchased one listed for 2004 and 3004 models , and luckily it fitted the 1300 I have perfectly.  Got it for about £60 new inc post and package.

There are loads of other branded hitch locks that fit the Alko on the market, most look pretty good,  but the silliest design I saw was this.  Both bolts which bolt on the whole Alko unit are still visible.  Thus anyone with a spare 19mil spanner and a spare hitch can either just steel your £200 anti snake device or replace the hitch with a standard one and nick the van.

Not so silly at all Tony B52, along with the lock come two steel pins. You drill a hole into each fixing bolt down the thread and hammer in the pins thus stopping them from being removed. It wouldn't get the Sold Secure label without it.

Christian 17, I have one for sale if you're interested (fits every Alko stabilizer except mine!)

Ahhhh, thought it was an oversite on the manufacuturers part.  Sorry, just out of interest, could you explain a little more, dont quite understand.

What do you drill, and where do the pins fit??

Presumably the pins in some way must secure the Alko to the steel van bar inside the Alko?

Taxater is referring to the two pins that actually come with the lock I think Tony B52. However, I agree that the two Alko hitch lock securing bolts in front of the the draw bar remain exposed which could be undone quite easily by any potential thief. Not a good deterrant in my view whatever cerificate it comes with.

I presume your right Tango, unless the reference is something to do with the bolts locking on the Alko which I cant get my head around, just had a look at mine, and cant see where two pins if effective in stopping a theft, could be put to secure the Alko to the draw bar.

If so, strange design for a Security lock, stops you hitching, but doesn't stop theft of the alko or van.

Just to cap this one off for others reading the thread, I had a look at one of these on the shelf.  The set did come with two new nuts and bolts for your hitch.

The bolds had a gap running down the length in which a pin sits.  This is to make it difficult to remove the hitch, and replace to steel the van.

However, the dealer advised it would also make it difficult to remove the hitch to maintain, or replace, and the bolts may need drilling out.
