??? now if your referring to lighting gel, as in used in theatre, why would cool to the touch matter? a 15W halogen reflector lamp is going to be much cooler than a 1Kw theatre lamp.

a diffuser gel would be the best, I wouldn't look at lower wattage lamps, less than 10W for a halogen gives a very yellow colour temp.

Thanks once again all - jasie - yes they look just like that! Unfortunatley our leisure battery is not holding charge - another thing to replace this year - so cannot check whether mains for def!

Book light is a good idea - don't know why didn't think of that - doh! But if anyone else has solved the problem then do post!!

20 watt seems to be the lowest you can go on those.....these are a good price.....

Some seem to come wide beam or narrow beam,possibly that might make a difference.

a wider beam would reduce the glare slightly, but not much, the light output would be spread over a slightly larger area, tbh, the distance from the lamp to the lit object wouldn't be enough to make a difference, its usually only 5 degrees, 10 degrees max difference in the beam angle.

i use a small lamp . it was a childs night time pixie light just enough for me to read and doesnt disturb the OH. it is quite pretty too its a pottery lamp like a pixie houe with little rabbits inside. if you know what i mean.

this is the same sort of thing but mine is different.

very low light bulb.

they might have them in ikea or mothercare . ive had mine years at least 25years.it looks nice in the caravan window as well.

That's useful, thanks!   Wonder why they didn't come up when I "googled". I must need more practice.
