We are off to view another caravan at the weekend. (This will be our first van). I presume its early 90's but the lady who owns it does not know the age (husband to call back). It doesn't have an awning. Does anyone know which awning I would need and how easy or difficult it would be to find. How much are they new versus secondhand?

Any advice welcome.

Hi. Looking at the Isabella site, it would appear to have an "A" measurement of around 822cm if it is a 92 or 94. This is the measurement from the floor, around the awning rail and back to the ground. Look for an awning which fits this size. (ie something like 800 to 825). However, a 1990 one it says is 827cm so you may need the next size up. If you want to be absolutely sure, take a length of string and measure it. As for the price, this depends simply on how much you want to pay.

Pete

Thanks, I didnt realise it was as simple as taking the rail measurement. Will have a look around at prices so we know what the situation is when we go to have a look.

Get a lightweight porch, a larger one can have as much space as a full awning!!

I dont like the look of some of those rounded porches, no idea what make they are. Need a full awning for our 2 week holiday in July so that's the priority. Haven't even bought the caravan yet, just hope this is the one.

Just bought an NR Pullman Awning for my Dawnstar. £140 ebay. Porch awning would have come across the side window plus the fact they are lot smaller.

Wow, £140 is a bargain. Is that second hand? Some of the dealers seem to be selling off stock before the season starts but around £300+.

Just done my first trip with a recently bought caravan, a 1992 abi award daystar. Got it parked up on site and set about putting the awning up. It's too short on height! It's the wrong awning for this van. Can anyone recommend an awning for my van?

Hi, I presume you mean the awning rail is too low. Unfortunately caravan awning rails have got higher in recent years due to a flat roof style across the van and bigger wheels. The problem is that the awning roof tends to slope back towards the caravan and this can be made better or worse on a sloping site depending on the direction of slope.

Even more unfortunately, awning manufacturers are unlikely to make much to fit 30 year old vans.

Awnings generally state the height of caravan they will fit so you need to find an awning which fits that range.

Putting the caravan on ramps might help.

you need to measure from the ground, then follow the awning channel up the front, long the roof and back down the track to the ground, this measurement in centimeters will give you the length of awning required

Hello navver. Maybe I should have been more specific. It's not the caravan that's too short it's the awning. Sorry for the confusion.
