Been camping with a 6 month old now caravaning with a 9 year old. A good camping cot is all we found that was needed.

my daughter started camping at 3 months...brr was a bit cold in the tent, but we did take little oil heater for at night....

since converted to the darkside with the caravan.
Son went in the caravan when he was about 4 months.

no problems at all.
as bob says, get a good cot.

we actually had a travel cot and just set it up when needed at first. Been using the bunk since he was about 1 yr old with a bed guard set up.

You can't start them early enough.  In a caravan you are not much different to being at home.  Make sure you have a suitable bed(carrycot or whatever) and a portable playpen--or use windbreaks to create one.  Sink doubles as a baby bath if there are no facilities on the site.  Have no fears in a van, just enjoy!!!  Just been reminded of a couple that had the pitch next to ours in the loire one year.  They were Dutch, had three children under 4, used windbreaks to create a fence around their awning(we thought this antisocial at first, till we realised it was to contain the rug rats) The pitch was strewn with thousands of highly coloured plastic toys and they all had a whale of a time!!!

Hi Jenny

We have 3 kids and have often borrowed parents caravan for holidays. The youngest one of ours when they first stayed in it was 8 weeks! We bought a pop up cot from nettos of all places for 12.99 was the best bargain we have ever had from there and it has well and truly served us well with them all! When they got too big for it we just took a travel cot and stood it in the middle of the van at night. Was a bit of a sqeeze if anyone needed to get past to the loo but was much easier than trying to get a toddler to go to sleep on one of the front seat beds! we found they felt more secure and settled well in it, then we just took it down and stood it in the awning or boot of the car in the day. Theyre all too big for cots now (youngest is 3) but they absolutely love caravanning and camping and cant wait to go. Its a massive adventure for them and they love it as I am sure your little one will too. Just have fun and try and get some relaxation!!

Wow thank you for replies, feel set to go now (just need the weather)!
I don't need anything then as she sleeps with us and grandma has a travel cot for early evening.
Love the windbreak idea, this would work with the dog too so might invest. Have a sling too which she spends alot of time in too so could put her in that to set up I surpose...
Its strange as i'm usually quite confident in all things but really quite nurvouse and we canceled 2 bookings last year as we were afraid really.

My middle son caravanned at 6 weeks old. I bathed him in the sink and he slept in his carrycot. Made sure he had a fleecy sleepsuit so he was cosy and warm and it was all fine.

We have taken our daughter from around 15 months. We use a collapsible bed guard as mentioned by others. We used a builders 42l Trug as a bath. Its great as it is flexible and you can bend it under the site taps.

Enjoy

we used a small dingy for a bath (folded smaller) used carry cot till too old for that, then made "cot" the same way as others with a bed rail, just be aware you may need rolled blankets to fill any gaps.

done that with all 3 of mine, the youngest was in a TT at 6 weeks, middle one was 3 months (in caravan), and the youngest just 4 weeks.
