I want to take a seasonal let in IReland to be near my family. I was thinking to go over and buy the caravan there and have them tow it to the site. But have been told it's way cheaper to buy a caravan here in the uk and take it over ourselves. CAn there really be that huge a price difference?

Do you mean these big 8 berth type or a tourer and what age of van.
The cost of going over the pond is quite expensive. You might be able to get one from a Romany while in Ireland.
I dont know of any caravan sales in Eire but northern Ire operates very similar to England.
Try Charles Camping, Blessington, Co Wicklow. He often has second hand vans for sale. Probably the biggest caravan place in Eire but nothing like the choice there is over here.
It was a tourer I was thinking of. When I looked at Irish ferries it was only £53 extra to tow a caravan as compared to just bringing the car on its own. Thanks for advice Johnks re charles camping as it's actually near wicklow (wexford) where we're going. I'm wondering if it's worth paying a bit extra so as not have the hassle of bringing it over. When we buy it, it's going to go into storage there.

It would be cheaper to buy a caravan off ebay or privately on the UK mainland & tow it over than to buy from a dealer in the UK or Ireland.
Not so sure you are right. Bit of a problem with warranty if bought from a dealer!

Generally it is cheaper to buy in England by about a couple of grand and a lot of Ireland based people do this as they also get a wider choice. If its new, warranty isn't a problem as the nearest dealer is obliged (according to the manufacturers) to do warranty work and if its over a year old it doesn't matter who looks after it unless you need to keep up the damp warranty. We have bought in England in the past and towed it over as we reckon we saved quite a bit of money that way.
------------- The things that come to those who wait, may be the only things left by those who got there first.
Hi thanks fortrafan, did you buy new from a dealer? I was thinking of making it even cheaper by possibly buying off ebay and then taking it over (thanks tentz)so I suppose warranty won't be an issue.
you could try www.donedeal.ie its a good site for second hand caravans, just watch out,its a little like ebay, lots of crap as well,i live in wexford,if you need any help just drop me a line.
