Hi

Just wondered what peoples thoughts are on adding external aerial boxes such as this : http://www.campervanaccessories.co.uk/maxview-twin-weatherproof-external-socket-p-1744.html

I really dont want to dangle the lead through a window so this seems the best idea unless anyone has any better ideas?

Like Chalkie says, we fitted a small aerial connector where the EHU Socket is on the side of the van. There was more than enough room there.

Fortunately nowadays we have upgraded to an FC and no longer need to drill through anything to run cables and aerials in.

If your van is in warranty then check with the maniufacturer first.

Under our bed is a ventilation hole covered by a grill (just inside the locker door). I take the plug off the TV aerial lead and thread the lead through the grill and up under the bed and then through to the TV area (which is next to the foot of the bed.) Then pop the plug back on and its all systems go. So no cable trailing in via the window and having to disconnect everytimewe leave the van.

I drilled a hole in the battery box, next to the main EHU plug. Thread wire through, fitted satellite socket on the end (so it is too big to be pulled back through the drilled hole) and job done. No drilling through external walls (would hate to do that ) and the satellite cable fits in the same gap as the EHU cable, when the locker door is shut.

My battery box is under the front seat, so easy to do - then threaded the cable up through existing conduit to SAT socket in top locker.

If you are going to fit the arial box to the ouside of your van, don't forget to use sealant behind it.  Many recomend that you use sealant at the top and sides only so that if any moisture should get in it can drain out of the bottom.

Hi ihategherkins. I believe you can buy a bulkhead coaxial type fitting. You can then drill a small hole in the floor to attach the concector connect one end to you aerial the other to the TV. I have over simplified it a little but you should get the gist.

i fitted one it was a good thing to do,saves a lot of time setting the dish up.

Hi, I have the same type set up,cables run into trunking in wardrobe,into aerial booster and tv/sat connectors,and a couple of sat/tv connector cables from wall to tv/sat,have aerial poles clamped to the rear of van (stick on clamps), just outside door, can adjust aerial from inside van, no need to get wet when rainning,works well.
