Had to cut last season short as OH had cartlidge operation in Sept then in Oct I damaged my leg and was only able to move enough to return to work in Dec. OH closed caravan down on seasonal pitch with my youngest son , well OH was directing operations!   Just starting to dread what I will find when we go to open up next weekend. Will he have remembered to put the cushions up as carefully as I do so they won't fall over if the wind catches the van?  Did he pick up the carpet runner in case any rain gets in the doorway as it sometimes does if the wind is in a certain direction.  Oh well, if you are near River Lune next Saturday and hear someone screaming ...... it might be me!!

Last year we  Caravanned until 24th Nov,  had Chester booked for Xmas shopping but couldnt get the van out of storage - 2 foot of snow so did not get out at all in Dec and had major withdrawal symptoms.  Went out twice in jan 2011 pipes and water froze up but van cosy and warm, we loved it.  went to york week before last and then going to chester and wales 7th March and cant wait.  Bedding washed and back on van,  made batch of lasagne, Shep Pie, and chilli portioned up and in freezer ready to load into van next sunday,  great idea with buns will have to try that as OH loves his sponge and custard. J x

Ours begins last weekend of March and we can't wait - going to the NEC on Friday has just made us yearn to get away that bit more!!  Im not sure whether it will be a completely relaxing trip as I know OH won't be able to stop tinkering with everything.  Only a few weeks from there until Easter and then it really begins for us.

We have spent all weekend cleaning our van,,,,,i towed it down to the local garage and we jet washed it with our stepladders, then took it back to storage and polished every inch of the outside till she was gleaming,,,then did the inside. Next friday off out locally to Wakefield,,,,,allright its only 2 junctions down the motorway,,,but there are 3 caravans going together, should be good fun,,

,then we really start with all our planned weekends, like Lickpenny, Rudding Park, Vauxhall, Plassey, Buxton, Lincoln, enjoy everybody x

We've just come back from our first trip of the year to the New Forest, (didn't look very new though).  Brilliant, always take the kids for their first trip in Feb, just booked up two breaks for the bank hol weekends in April, but will try to do a weekend or two before then though.

The new forest is a bit boggy this time of year, but we found a couple of good upper ground walks which didn't involve a swim.  We visited muddyford and Milton on Sea, did some crabbing and a bit of fishing with the kids, and hit the onsite indoor pool on the really rainy days.

Our last trip of the year is generally October, lots of sites closing down for the winter then, but to be honest, I might try a later booking than that this year.

hey phil...doing all that food prep before you go is a great idea :) sounded really yummy too!!...i often take a slow cooker which is great for doing food,,pop it on,on a sat morning and nice tasty dinner ready for tea time,my fav is creamy broth and dumpling, with crusty baguette...mmmm lol (when its chilly,,barbee is best in summer)

well we got away in our caravan this weekend,we were going to thirklby hall as seasonal but changed as we managed to get on to rudding park as seasonal (more there for kids)...we decided to just opt for a grass seasonal pitch and now i wish id paid extra to have hardstanding as the prev occ of our grass pitch (as every other neighbour) has had a permanent awning up which has just left a large mud area wr the awning is to go down.I asked the park manager advice on what to do about it and he said decking is the best way...oh dear,,,husband isnt great at diy so it has us in a quandry now lol..so im thinking maybes pea shingle base with tarp under might be earsier,,or ive been advised to use pallets with tarp over then thick cord carpet.... suggestions would be appreciated from anyone?? we really need to build some kind of base (easiest and cheapest suggestions) it was going to be extra 225 for harstanding....hmmm maybes worth paying as i bet decking isnt cheap (or easy to lay,,lol)

we managed thro the week end by putting a large tarp ground sheet down and then our 360 porch awning on top with some decking tiles a a small path,,but the dogs didnt use the path and squelched straight into the soft mud,,then straight back onto my awning floor lol..sunday morning it was raining quite bad and all the mud starting running into the ground sheet..so we packed up and came home (once home the day was beautifull and warm/sunshine,,and i wished we hadnt of been so hasty with going home, how typical?)

Rudding is a lovely site and im really excited about the big event they have planned for the royal wedding :)....just hope we manage to fathom out how to build a good base soon :(
