We have just had one fitted after LOTS of arguments trying to get our caravan into a tricky driveway. We paid £750 for a Powertorch fitted. It's the best thing we have done. Goes easily over our wet boggy grass with ease. We can now use the van more often. Well worth it

If the budget won't stretch to a mover, fit a camera to help lining up the hitch. If your wife is good at directing, you are lucky - Mine usually stands where I can't see her, and when I can the arm waving is tricky to decipher

For example, the Garmin camper satnav accepts a wireless camera that can be slipped over the number plate.

As someone else mentioned, if you are handy there are always second hand movers, and fitting isn't difficult if you are mobile enough to get under the van.

<!--bmi_SafeAddOnload(bmi_load,"bmi_orig_img",1);//-->Well for us a motormover is a must, without one our caravanning days would be over due to health reasons, we both suffer with back problems amoungst other things, so the £825 fully fitted cost of our Reich mover was money well spent, and easily recouped on what we saved on storage fees. There was no way we would have been able to get the caravan onto the drive at home without the mover, as its a bit of a tight space on a fairly busy road.

Same here, money well spent and I have never regretted buying one. Hitching up is now a doddle, the caravan is motor-moved to the car hitch! And so easy to get it back onto the drive.

Decent second hand movers are few and far between. As a mover retailer, I don't accept them as part exchange unless I have a chance to view and try them before removal.

If money is a problem, you really don't need it.  Just think what people did before motor movers existed. I've managaed very well without for over 40 years.

I can hardly walk these days, but we don't move the caravan a single inch by hand.  That's what the tow car is for.

If reversing is a problem, just get some practice.  It's not that hard.

Jim

I agree, all people really need is a tow car, however the problem with modern cars is that unlike older cars, modern cars have things called DMF's (dual mass flywheel) in the good old says the flywheel was a big lump of steel, these days they are all sorts of materials including plastic.

In normal driving conditions this isn't a problem, but when people are towing and slipping the clutch the heat generated goes into the DMF, and actually melts parts of the DMF.

I bought a Ford Focus a few years ago that had a DMF that was shot due to the previous owner towing something(I didn't know until six months after buying it) I took it back and got the dealer to fix it, and from what I learned it cost about a grand.

the easy way to hook up, is to buy a cheap reversing camera and monitor and wire the live from camera and monitor together so they can be plugged into lighter socket leave camera loose on dash and run wires/camera through boot/hatch and duck tape camera on bumper check image is right then you can get the towball right to hitch single handed. i did mine today had to move the van on my own.
