Hi Folks,

Just thought I'd drop a recommendation for HBF Caravan Services.

Ian has done a job resealing our motorhome today as a bit of preventative maintenance (he does caravan servicing too, as the name of his firm implies!).  And a superb job he's done too!  I'm really impressed with it.

He's an honest and genuine chap - bent over backwards to fit in around our schedule, and the (very reasonable indeed) price he quoted was the price we paid - even though there were a few other bits and bobs he picked up on, which he sorted as he was going along.

I've had bad experiences in the past with caravan servicing (had a caravan before we got our motorhome), but I'll definately be using Ian again - cannot recommend him highly enough

He's based in Wigan, but is mobile so can come to you - I'm sure he'll travel to anywhere in the North-West area if you ask him.

His contact details are:

Ian at HBF Caravan Servicing,
Mobile - 07413 755462,
Landline -01942 367726

Hope this is of ue to anyone in the North-West area who needs any Caravan/Motorhome servicing or repairs doing.

Cheers Folks

Thanks for that - I'll be keeping his details.  Always good to have someone recommended.  Our van isn't due a service for nearly a year but it's handy to have details of someone good just in case...

Bit difficult really, because our motorhome is solid GRP, with only 1 main seam between the overcab bit and the main body, and then the areas where factoryfitted extras were (like roof rails and air-con unit).  So I could tell you, but it wouldn't really be representative compared to the more labour-intensive task of caravan resealing?

But then on top of that there was the gas flue (which I didn't even think of - which he resealed anyway), plus sorting a few other dints and dings which he noticed when doing the job that I didn't - and he didn't charge any extra.  He obviously takes pride in his work.  I suppose that's one of the benefits of being your own boss, not having targets and deadlines to meet - means you can spend the time to do a quality job, and then build your business further based on your reputation (I know myself, from many moons ago when I used to be self-employed - although in a very different line of work, the same principle applies).

All I can say on the cost front is, I rang around for a few different places for quotes before a mate of mine recommended him. Ian gave me an indicative quote over the phone - which was a fair amount cheaper than the other quotes I had, but said he'd prefer to come out to have a look to give me a firm quote (none of the others even offered to do that), at no cost to me.  The fim quote came out at a few quid less than his already cheap indicative quote, and as I metioned above, he stuck to it even though there were a few more bits and bobs he only noticed when he was in the depths of doing the work.  He didn't put me under any pressure at all to go ahead with it - he just gave me the firm price, told me to give him a ring later if I wanted him to do the work, and went on his way.

Best thing you can do is give him a bell to have a chat about the work you're thinking of having done, and get him to give you a quote.

No problem Vanessa!  Anything to help out a local fellow member from potentially having issues with less than satisfactory caravan/motorhome servicing...

Our motorhome is due a habitation service in June this year, and shall be getting it booked in with Ian a little closer to the time without any shadow of a doubt!
