I've been looking for a 4 berth caravan today and have found a compass corona 524. Can anyone out there tell me anything about this caravan or even compass caravans in general, are they good quality vans for instance??  Need to get back to the dealer asap to give him a decision on whether we want to buy it so time is of the essence. I've got a Bailey 2 berth at the moment and have been really happy with it, need a bigger caravan to take my granddaughter with us.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

We've just got a 2007 Compass Mendip Magnum 556 (dealer special of the Corona).  We previously had a Coachman.

We loved our Coachman but it was too heavy for the car we've changed to plus the 6 berth layout is better for us for now.

There are some areas where the Coachman was better - felt more solid but that also made it heavier.  And there are some bits of the Compass that are much better designed like the slats under the front bunks liftting up like a lid instead of going back on runners & constantly coming out of them.

We're happy with it - dry as a bone, well looked after, good design features, loads of storage, everything works as it should.  Compass are part of the Elddis group so they're decent vans although everyone will have their own opinions on which  manufacturer is best!

We have got the 524. Had it a few years. Its been to France & Spain and we have always been very happy with it. It tows well & nothing has broken.

I believe it is regarded by some as the budget version of Eldis but we have found the quality good.

You won't see many on sites so you will be aa little bit different.

Had a 2003 Magnum 524, a Mendip caravans special based on the Compass Corona. Never had any problems with it, an excellent van!

This is our second Compass in recent years. The first was a 2007 Compass Omega 544 and we now have a 2008 Ralle 634. Both are great vans, particuly the latter as we adore the layout. No problems with either van at all. Damp tests have all been clear. The only problem was with the Omega when one of the switches on the consumer unit failed. £12 to fix.

i had a 524 mandip magnum same as corona it was a lovely van easy to tow no problems in 4 years. we changed for a coachman because we thought it would be more solid plus we down sized. it is solid but as said heavy the compass was a pretty van nice size comfortable yes i would say as long as it seems damp free go for it . how old is it . and will they give you a warranty .

have fun take care good luck.

Thanks folks for your replies, it's a 2005 and has a 12 month warranty. Nice van in good condition and damp free. We're thinking that we're going to go for it.

My hubby had ordered a Portico Plus porch awning before we decided to change vans, it arrived today! Anyone know what height the Corona 524 is? just wondering if we should send it back or if it will fit.

its not over 3 meters because the porch awning we had for ours is a little to small for the coachman . but we just manage. rather than changing . when we bought our s we rang nr awnings and the guy on the phone told us the height.
